BEST Fix EVER, Bandai!

IMG_8183

I’m not kidding. After one of you told me that the Mk-II AEUG Ver. doesn’t have a rotating waist, I was far from enthusiastic about working on this model. I went to check out other modelers’ MK-II AEUG Ver. to confirm…and yup, it is unfortunately so. I was even bent on chewing it and Bandai out for it in the review. When I got to the waist unit, I just snipped off all the parts without looking at the manual because it was the last step. At first, I was a bit baffled at why the fitment of parts doesn’t make sense compared to the manual then I noticed Bandai missed a step where the two upper waist pieces connect to the bottom…

IMG_8173

I thought it was silly of Bandai to left out some instructions but then after another look at parts again, it finally hit me…

IMG_8174IMG_8175

MY MG GUNDAM MK-II 2.0 AEUG VER. ACTUALLY HAS A ROTATING WAIST!!! My parts are different than those in the manual and so I went to check on Dalong’s MK-II AEUG parts runner…

And you can see that Dalong’s MK-II has the upper waist connected (which prevents the rotation) while mine are separated.

IMG_8184

YESSS!! THANK YOU BANDAI!!! hahah now I actually like this model XD. I don’t know nor do I care if this was a manufacturing/packaging mistake or if Bandai decided to update all future AEUG MK-II 2.0 runner F’s after the Titan’s release because this is GREAT! So now… for all I know, this could possibly be a MG Gundam MK-II 2.0 Titans Ver. AEUG Ver. >____>. Now if only Bandai will make the same mistake with the 1/100 00-Raiser…

*ahem* now that I’m done with the model… it is time to start the photoshoot and its review is just right around the corner…

The Gundam Powers Up

a

Grabbed this from Danny. It is finally completed and fully operational (straight with THE all-too-familiar Gundam boot-up sound effect). Yes it looks awe-inspiring from the many photos but I think it is also safe to say that one look at this statue in person and a huge wave of inspiration will channel through the eyes of the person, instantly igniting the gunota passion. Ah yes… looking at the abundance of photos of this magnificent artwork has indeed sparked my childhood love for Gundams and all things mecha. I can only imagine myself being hynotized into a crazed Gunota again if I were to be standing in front of this RX-78-2 in person. Truly Glorious…

WISP 3: Weathering

IMG_5340

I know… You can’t really notice anything… but it is there. I weathered the head, shoulders, and the body. Was trying to give it that normal dirty look but find it quite difficult because it conflicts with my “clean model” mentality ^^;

IMG_5316

I tried going for the GFF kinda of weathered look on the black parts. If you have a GFF, you probably sometimes noticed some brown here and there on some areas.

IMG_5318IMG_5327IMG_5333IMG_5313

Swear it doesn’t need to be shown so up close to be seen and it’s a lot dirtier than it looks ^^;. It sure adds a bit of depth to the model if done properly though.  Experiment neither fail nor a success so far… seeing how I could still have that “clean” look without doing any more.

Now to answer this before anyone ask: I’m using Mr. Hobby Weathering Pastel.

WISP 2: MK II Weapons

IMG_8138

Okay… now that Finals are finally over with, I can catch up with the comments, emails, and blogging-related stuff… and make an all-out effort to complete the MG Gundam Mk. II (oh snap!). Just today, I’ve finished the backpack and all the weapons and will work on the arms later… so all that’s left will be the waist and legs. So those of you who are still procrastinating on your entry better scramble soon ^^

IMG_8140

Now I know I said in my last post that I was gonna skip top coat on this model but I got fed up with how especially shiny the plastic for this model look so I gave it a half-assed layer of that matte chemical and… my God (Gundam)! Does it look oh so much better!

I was thinking… maybe I should turn this Mk II into a testbed model for new techniques like I did with my Wing Ver. Ka for decals/stickers/top coat… could delay completion a bit and might be a bit catastrophic but seems like it might worth the risk…

Durian

IMG_5305

I noticed a distinctive odor when I approached my fridge earlier and I immediately knew what was inside. Durians. Pretty soon the kitchen and my living room will start to smell like this fruit. I think most Asians are explicitly familiar with this fruit but for those who doesn’t, this is actually worth trying even if it is just for experience’s sake ^^.  It is quite… unique.

IMG_5311

How would I describe durians? It smells like rotten eggs, fart, with a hint of banana and another sweet tropical fruit. Very strong… and can stink up the whole room. It almost taste like what it smells too but more fuity. Texture is like…creamy, custard-like, yet dry… kinda like tender chicken. While I use to hate this fruit as a kid, I’ve come to at least be able to eat it now. Still not passionate about it like my parents are though. They LOVE this stuff.

Have you tried durians before? Love it or hate it? (It is usually either/or)

MG Exia vs RD Exia

untitleda

*sigh* the more I look at it, the more I’m beginning to think the MG Exia’s proportions could have been a lot better. Just look at the Robot Damashii Exia… THAT is how I’d have like it. Sleeker body and longer sword. Guess the last time for Bandai to showcase the MG Exia for good impressions would be the poses that goes on the box.

UPDATE: Official Bandai model finally came out

untitleduntitled

Still not winning any votes from me but I am curious why there are still no action shots yet… You would think Bandai will make that as an advertising point…

All pics jacked from none other than Ngee Khiong

First WISP: Gundam MKII 2.0

IMG_8122

I know I know… I’m taking forever on this kit and all of you want me to just be done with it ASAP right? :)

IMG_8111

Truth be told… I’m still not very enthusiastic about this kit because I never liked it in the first place but kinda surprised to find myself liking the looks of the head. The body could feel a little more rigid though…

IMG_8113

I don’t know when I’ll be done with this model honestly. At this rate, it might as well take two weeks because I have finals this week and s-load of other things to take care of. I don’t like this model enough to put much effort into it though (skipping the top coat).

Oh oh, someone emailed me saying that my contest was too difficult and suggested that I join in on the competition too against everyone else’s entry and let the public decide the victor… That doesn’t sound like such a bad idea… What do you think? :)

Anyway, I’ve already received a few entries but I haven’t downloaded them  yet though. Gonna wait till I’m done with the model and then sort through them all at once.

One Year of “Home Look”

IMG_5293

Today marks the first anniversary of this blog. I can’t believe it… can you? I’ve never thought of blogging for this long. When I first started,  I thought I’d probably get bored and drop this blog thing in a couple of months. Things have changed. The name of this blog, Fudoushin (不動心), have long been lost and its original purpose rewritten. I wouldn’t have imagined this blog to become what it is today ^^;

IMG_5295

Last year, I had really bad Gunpla-itis; it would take me literally a few months to even consider starting on my next MG. Realizing this is a bad habit, I started this review blog as an incentive to build my models. By taking photos and reviewing the models, it gave me a more solid purpose of building the models as opposed to “okay, I’m done. Now what?”.  After awhile, people began to pick up on this blog and like what they were seeing. This blog didn’t start out as “home look” but just your average “my hobby, my life” personal type of thing but seeing the blog stats and feedback motivated me to change that.

IMG_5296

As this blog’s readership inceases, I’ve finally decided a new purpose for it. Something more ambitious. And this is where the whole “home look” thing came in. I want this blog to be something like Dalong. A “second opinion”, if you will, for people deciding on what models to get. I want to be able to show fellow gunotas out there how Bandai’s models really are compared to their professionally-built ones and what they are capable of. I want to show the real deal. And so I’ve put in the effort to make this blog more of a “site” than a “blog” by making pages for each review as opposed to making a post.

IMG_5300

Ultimately, I want this blog to be recognized similar to Dalong’s. My goal is that this blog would become a popular referral site for anyone asking for Gundam reviews or wondering if they should pick up a certain model. This will be without a doubt, a very long term goal but it gives me something to continually work toward to :). Even if I don’t succeed in that, at the very least I want this blog to be a nice place for everyone to just chill and hang out :D

IMG_5301

I’ll continue on improving the aesthetic and everything else about this blog better. Taking better pictures, pumping out faster reviews, better layout, etc. I know my past reviews might have been too wordy so I’ve changed my review layout (instead of dumping a whole gallery at the end, I’ve changed to inserting pics throughout the review). Some of you may have noticed that the tone of my reviews might also have changed slightly from a bit monotonic/technical to a little more satirical and to the point^^;. Basically less words, more picture (actually if anything, I need to reduce the amount of photos I take…)

The Stats

stats

Here are the stats of this blog since the month I started. At the end of each month, I always thought “wow! there’s no way I’ll be able to top that much hits again!” but strange enough, each oncoming month have beaten the previous month’s stats (with the exception of the time I was working on Sinanju where I have only a week’s worth of post the whole month). While the numbers don’t represent the real number of “unique visitors”, I’m a happy blogger knowing that some of the hits are from recurring readers ^^. I admit that I “whored out” this blog the first couople of months to different sites/forums but have since stopped out of laziness and feeling a bit shameful for such advertisement ^^;. I’m also beginning to see from my stats page that people all over the world are beginning to refer others to my blog (YAY!). I’ve seen this blog being referred to from sites in different countries like the Netherlands, Philippines, Portugal, Brazil, Germany, Spain, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the US (going by the website’s language and internet domain). So I guess I’m one step closer to my goal :D.

Thank you!

I know this post is already TL;DR but I need to get this important part across. I want to thank all of you, the readers, for taking the time to visit this blog and making this a lively place. Your comments, suggestions, questions, feedbacks, and discussions have contributed to the growth and develop of this blog. Thanks to you, my modeling skills have also improved and I’m more willing to try new things. Also thanks to you, I’m willing to build all of my Gundam models! I also want to thank the other bloggers for adding my blog to their blogroll as they also drive traffic here (and I hope my blogroll is doing the same for them as well). I just want to say, thank you everyone for everything!

I’ll continue to do my best to make sure this blog will always be entertaining and worth your time. :)

The Contest

I’m sure most of you are already tired from reading/skimming through this post so I’ll save the details on it for the next post. Be ready for it ^_^

Overdue: HG 1/144 00 Raiser Designer’s Color Ver.

IMG_5227

This one is the last of the three suddenly acquired Gundams. Here’s the review for the HG 1/144 00 Raiser. It was interesting reviewing Gundam models done by someone else as I also pick up new ideas and note how some things could be done differently. It was fun too because all the hard work has been done ^^;. The previous owner did a wonderful job on all three kits. Now it’s time for me to go back to my own model…

But not after one more huge post later tonight.
