Lollerskating Ninjas

A friend just sent me this awesome oldies Japanese movie clip of Ninjas on Lollerskates chasing a funny looking car XD. Those ninjas sure has endurance to keep up with the car o_0. Anyone know what movie this is by any chance? ^^

I’ll be away from home again over the weekend so I probably won’t have Exia’s review up until next week (maybe Tuesday or Wednesday?)^^;

MG Exia Standing on its Own

IMG_7018

Just about the exact same height. I wouldn’t say the MG Exia has “more details” over its NG 1/100 but rather… it has different details all together (different panel lines…but not exactly more). Heck, the 1/100 has more details on some areas than the MG such as the feet since the MG’s are virtually plain. This’ll be the last WISP shot before I start the real photoshoot and finish the review (by the end of the month). I found a few things to nitpick on… (saving it for later)

IMG_7020

Strange that Bandai gave Exia a partial skeleton; the backside and inner side of the inner leg frame are opened, revealing the polycaps. Not that I really care since the only time I’ll be looking at the inner frame is during assembly anyway…

IMG_7028

wahaha… I’ve finally assembled a lighting setup that gives a some decent resemblance to daylight! Hopefully I can do away with those white-out white photos and take shots with some nice tone to it. But man… the lamps sure are producing a lot of heat… ^^;

Anyway, off to finish the remaining swords and cloth and Exia will finally be complete…

Hey, It Works… Sorta XD

IMG_6992

Looks like the 1/100 Avalanche Exia lower body almost could’ve worked…if the connectors were the same. the 1/100 model uses a peg to connect to the body while the MG uses a ball joint. Still… the results look a bit disproportionate XD. I was thinking about test-fitting the Avalanche parts on but only the shoulder would work it seems as everything else is pretty out of proportion.

IMG_6993

The lighting was very nice in my room today so I had to take a few snapshots. THIS is my ideal lighting condition but it is almost impossible to replicate >_>;

IMG_6997

Many thanks to Lupes, I am finally able to convert Unicorn back to…. Unicorn ^^;. I really like this design… thinking maybe I should get another Unicorn just for the sake of Unicorn…

IMG_6999

Ideal lighting condition + ideal backdrop = Win! haha the back is just my monitor turned off. Hmmm… anyone know what sort of paper I can actually use to recreate this setup? My monitor is not big enough ^^;

IMG_7002

Yea… decided to leave the shoulder cables off to make this model look more streamlined instead of like a prototype (That’s what Astraea is for). Sure, there are now empty slots on the arms, and the shoulder pieces just rock around loosely (-_-) but I still think it looks better than out-of-place cables >_>

IMG_7004

Last shot… Couldn’t help it… ^^; Damn I wish I could do my reviews with this lighting and backdrop…

Screwed Up…

IMG_8338

I was never really fond of the pink/bluish tint of the hologram strips since day one and so I decided to to paint it clear blue….

IMG_8339

Doesn’t look too bad right? I only painted the backside so there is still the hologram effect on the front. I was thinking of painting it clear green to go with the orbs…but figured that might be too much green and not sure how well green can blend with tinted blue/pink…ya know?

IMG_8340

ahaha… and this is where I screwed up. Can’t really help it though. The paint just cracks, breaks, and peels as I flex the shoulder cables. Not painting so many layers might help with the breakage but then the strip looks kinda… crappy. Truth be told, I never got why Exia have such cables in its design anyway so I was thinking of leaving them out a la R2 style… or just clean off the paint and leave it clear pink/bluish/purple.

This MG haven’t been a smooth ride for me this whole time ^^;. Although… I am having a blast working on the cloth…

Super Robot Wars NEO

1

Yeaaa… I’m a bit very late to find out about this (just yesterday) and I’m sure everyone else already knows but I still wanna talk about it ^^. So this is the newest SRW and it is for the Wii time. Despite the name “NEO”, this SRW contains quite a lot of old school stuff I see xD. There are two big shockers to me here: The roster and 3D graphics.

From that video, the ONLY series I know is New Getter Robo. The rest I’ve never seen or heard of in my life o_o. I still have fond memories of Braiger and G Gundam though. It seems that with each new SRW, Banpresto is bringing in more obscure (to me) mecha series. That’s a great thing as one get more exposure to more mechas… but at the same time, I feel just that more alienated ^^;. I play SRW to relive those awesome anime moments and laugh like a maniac as I control my favorite mecha to go on an onslaught on hapless grunts. The one SRW where I was well-versed with most of the roster was SRW@3 (or the whole alpha series actually). Now the 3D… woah, why is it 3D?! The graphics look great and all but… some things MUST stay 2D. I supposed if it needs to make use of the wiimote, then this is the way to go. I just hope it is not a permanent change because there is a special charm about seeing attacks being replicated just like its anime counterpart. Even though I have a wii, I have no intention of getting this game because there’s just too many series that I can’t relate to here x_x

Any SRW players here? What are your thoughts? Oh, and last question… how is “Super Robot Wars” read? Is it “SUPER ROBOT- Wars” as in “Wars of Super Robots”? or “SUPER- Robot Wars” as in a super war of robots? xD

GN DRIVE ACTIVATE!

IMG_8336

My batteries arrived yesterday and now I’ve finally gotten around to trying out the GN drives ^^. ‘Lo and Behold…

IMG_8328IMG_8331

It seems like I might’ve received some not-so-great LED units; I’m thinking the connections aren’t so great since the brightness tends to fluctuate a lot unless I squeeze tightly on the unit and the switch. Left: LED when dim / Right: LED at full powaa

IMG_8330IMG_8332

Another big annoyance I have was trying to get both LEDs to stay on at the same time. The mechanism is that both turns on when you twist the GN Drive but since both have iffy connections, it was kinda hard to get both equal. Luckily, they somehow balanced out at the end and both side stayed on…

IMG_8333

In the dark with both finally at full power. So am I the only one who has such iffy connections for the GN Drive?

Also, I’ve already finished the shoulders and arms ^^. Just waist/legs/weapons to go!

Trans-Am 00 Gundam

IMG_6980

Wow… Talk about ugly xD. This is like the worst 00 Gundam reiteration I’ve ever seen… but that’s perfectly fine because for only $6, you get like a model that has articulations far surpassing that of some $30-50 Master Grades. ho ho. Forget about color corrections, details, and all that nonsense >_>

IMG_6972IMG_6974IMG_6976IMG_6970IMG_6977IMG_6973

This model is actually from one of those cheap toy thingies that come with a candy. One of the most amazing thing about this kit is that the runners are “tools-free”. The pieces are attached so thinly that you can just pop them off easily…and WITH NO NUB MARKS! As you can see… the thing is also tiny.

IMG_6978IMG_6981IMG_6983IMG_6982IMG_6987IMG_6988

I wasn’t joking when I said this thing has more articulation than many MG models. This provided for a decent amount of entertainment when I needed a break xD. I threw away the package so not sure what the exact name of it is ^^;

Slash from the Past

IMG_6954

Look who I’ve dug out from the Gunpla grave :D. This model is none other than the HG 1/100 Gundam Epyon. This Gundam is held in high respect as being one of the purest melee mobile suits in the Gundamverse (minus magical off-screen vulcans). My love for giant swords goes back pretty far ^^.I don’t know how but its beam saber got lost somehow… TToTT

IMG_6957

It’s been so long I’m not even sure when I assembled this model (8+ years ago). I do remember that I had a blast assembling it though… and it took no more than a few hours. I wish can do that nowadays. Look at the dust and nub marks all over it! :D

IMG_6955IMG_6956IMG_6958IMG_6959

Bulky proportions. loose parts. lack of color correction. Polycap joints all around. poor range of motion. Ahh… the good old days of Gundam models xD. This model can’t really make action poses despite having a decent amount of articulation. Heck, it even has motion where no other model has so far… articulation on the shin!

IMG_6960IMG_6962IMG_6963IMG_6966

Sorry Trieze, but you’re not fooling anyone with that “twin dragon” (or whatever it is supposed to be) transformation mode >_>. Just imagine how painful that transformation would be in G Gundam…

IMG_6968

Gundam models sure have come a long way after all these years…

So Bandai… WHERE IS MY MG GUNDAM EPYON?!

MG Exia: Head and Body

IMG_8316

Just a straight build so far. With this model, I need to watch out for a few things thanks to the clear parts, foil stickers and the hologram parts. This means I have to assemble, apply decals, top coat, then add on GN stickers and clear parts at the end.

IMG_8315

Exia’s head reminds me of Mega Man X’s armor helmet (any of them…) ^^;.Anyway, like I said above… I won’t be able to apply stickers and the other stuff till the top coat is on otherwise they’ll get fogged up. The top part of the “ears” sit snugly but they are easy to brush off -_-. While highly unlikely, the yellow side vents can also fall off because it just sits inside the face unsecured o_O. V-fin can be easily pushed off as well.

IMG_8317

The body is amazing. Details everywhere! Even inside! Thankfully, this model doesn’t have that fixed-waist BS like the 1/100 00-Raiser… except I think Bandai kinda traded that for a fixed neck instead >_______>;. Wow. A fixed neck. Nowhere as important as a moveable waist but we’ll see how important it actually is during posing ^^;. It doesn’t seem to hinder anything so far…

I went to look for batteries for the GN Drive today and apparently, the LR/SR41 is a bit “rare” here as no one carries them and subsequently, the store clerks in charge of electronics have no idea what I’m talking about. Went to a jewelry/watch store and found them… but the guy wanted $5 A PIECE for them. That’s an extra $20 I have to shell out just to make an LED unit light up! I kindly and politely told the guy “OH HELLLLL NAWWW!” and promptly went home to buy a 5-pack for $5 on ebay…

MG Exia: First Impressions

IMG_8296

This is probably my first time being so indecisive about what to do with an MG model since… never ^^;. It took me weeks to decide to pre-order Exia, then it took me some more time to somewhat like its proportions, then some more time to warm up to its articulations… and now some more time to decide what kind of look I want on this Gundam. Stuff like these are usually instant for me. There were a lot of comments in the previous post and some questions so maybe this post can answer a few (and the rest can be answered after I’m done with this model ^^;). I’m already working on Exia now but camera battery died xP

IMG_8297

Choosing the look- I don’t know how I feel about the decals and stickers on Exia… A part of me likes it clean with minimal decals while another is telling me to just plaster everything on it like I usually do. I am liking the clear stickers because the clear borders are thin so I don’t have to cut them out ^^… but I’m not sure if I want them on Exia. The decals…are freakin’ tiny. A bunch of foil stickers that I won’t be using.

IMG_8298IMG_8299

The MG Exia model kit is not 100% new mold. Beam sabers from 2007 (NG 1/100 Exia?) and PC parts from 2003 (MG Strike) xD. I won’t berate Bandai for it though. This is actually what I call efficient engineering.

IMG_8302IMG_8303

Right now the “cloth” is as shiny as the bling bling blades… but I’ll make sure it’ll be as dull as dull can get by the time I’m through with it. Originally, I was under the impression that we would be getting two complete head units for this model but guess not. This is beginning to feel like building the Crossbone X-1 all over again… PITA head swapping? check. Loads of decals/stickers? Check. Plastic cloth? check. Awesome swords? CHECK!

This will probably be the last MG that I’ll be able to work on with real  free (what little I have of it) time (going back to school soon) and I wanna get it done quicker than usual (finish assembly by next week… yea, that’s fast for me). Don’t expect anything special though. This is still “home look” after all… ^^;
