Fallen Gundams

I’m sure this is an unpleasant sight that most of you can unfortunately relate to ^^;. My GFF Crossbone Gundam X-1 fell from the top of my 5′ display tower  and shattered into a few pieces after I accidentally bumped the case while trying to get to my closet. If you have Gundam models or figures, stuff like this happens from time to time. The damage wasn’t so bad since no parts were broken but it could always be worse… like my MG Freedom, which got its v-fin snapped after being knocked over by my light fixture ^^;. Another time (years ago), I knocked my MG Strike Rouge on the floor out of anger and bits flew everywhere (it’s all fixed and stuff now). My 1/60 Force Impulse fell from 6′ high and sadly I never fixed it. A lot more has taken such falls before but kinda painful to recall xD. The only thing to do left to do after it happened is to just fix it with your trusty super glue…

What’s the worst that has happened to your Gunpla before? Do you fix your broken models immediately or do you just leave it alone till who knows when? I generally tend to do the latter before the former… ^^;

    Both my Kotobokia models (R-Blade Custom and Union Tellus) took a dive and shattered to piece because of week ankles. Luckily everything was intact and I manged to put them back together.

    What did get damaged in a fall was the trigger hand on my MSIA Wing Zero TV version. The trigger finger got sort of separated from the rest of the hand and held the rifle even flimsier than before. I only barely managed to glue it back.

  2. Lelouch Says:

    ah….oh how I hate breaking my models…it just sucks how you get a new model on the first day and then break it right? Thats what usually happens to me when I’m careless. I start shaking and panicing thinking “Oh god no…I just got this, I MUST fix it.”

    A good example of this is my GFF F90 Gundam…I tried to convert it into the F91 and ALOT of things broke. T_T

    I have a reputation for breaking things…alot of my friends know that, but when it comes to REALLY valuable things like…oh, I dunno, a $200 limited statue then I would treat it with utmost care and NOT break it. Somehow, though, the super glue always works fine and usually patches stuff up nicely.

    My wife knocked my PG Mk II off the shelf once and he snapped in half. I had to explain that the waist pistons were already broken by my clumsy a** and that I’d fix it just fine, she was pretty upset.

    Other than that, my worst disasters see to be when I try to clean my shelves.

    I almost always use super glue on my GFFs anyway seems most of the attach points are just little nubs.

  4. Dredhawk Says:

    Broke the leg of a 1/60 scale freedom gundam trying to play around with it. its got stiff joints. after that never could get the leg to stay on it again try using superglue just would hold. then i just got a MG to replace it.

    anther model it dint get broke but my dad was looking for a book on the book shelf and nock off my MG Force Impulses lost it v-fin i still look from time time still cant find it proble got suck into the vac cleaner. so i have a gundam that dosnt look like a gundam becues it missing it V-fin LOL

    there a few other just cant rember

    Epic case 1: Once I was holding on to the little triangle part that goes into the middle of the V-Fin [the part where u have the "ZGMF-X19A Infinite Justice" on the forehead (MG ver.)] for the 1-100 IJ with the tweezers while working on the nub marks, when a sudden exert of strength on the tweezers send the tiny fella flying!… “Missile Away!” 0.0″ OMG was my 1st reaction! Just imagine IJ completed WITHOUT that part! It would look like… the offspring of Justice + V Gundam… & u might as well rename it to V Justice instead of IJ… o_O
    Luckily, I did manage to recover the part after spending 1 whole night reorganizing my housemate’s studying table (the table next to mine where I assumed where it fell to judging from the sound of “impact”…)

    Epic case 2: My heart skipped a few beats when the Unicorn Destroy Mode’s head (Yeah, that’s right, the 1 with the super long V-Fins opened) slipped from my hand & went straight for the floor, then it BOUNCED a couple of times before stopping still… MIRACULOUSLY! NO HARM DONE… O_O”
    And as if that wasn’t enough to scare me, it went for the EXACT SAME stunt less than 5 minutes later… & Yes, MIRACULOUSLY enough, still… No-harm-done! (None to the Unicorn’s head, but I almost fainted…) -_-”

  6. REPTILE Says:

    Thankfully none of my Mastergrades have fallen yet. The only Gundam thats fallen was my 1/100 NG Exia. It fell From a 5 FOOT SHELF and the only thing that broke was the beam sabers on the lower back, but I had my trusty super glue with me ;)

  7. neosonic Says:

    @aptkane
    wow, your wife is upset when your PG is broken?
    I envy you Bro… my girlfriend is jealous with my gunpla, lol.. (sometimes she shouts at my gunpla if she accidentally knocked them)

  8. Brammo Says:

    Years ago I knocked my MG Ex-S of my desk. Nothing broken, but I still haven’t quite forgiven myself. I usually put anything that falls down back together ASAP. Otherwise it just gets in the way and possibly gets more stuff broken in the progress. Also, if the accident is still recent you can still find all the missing parts (like my MG Freedom beamsaber which I found 4 months later after neglecting to put it together immediately).

  9. Mesmer Says:

    Anyone ever tried using Museum Gel to secure their collectibles? It’s mostly used for vases and stuff, but I don’t see how it can’t work for Gundams.

    About the whole luck thing, the other day I woke up to find that the novelty ukelele(idk how to spell that lol), had fallen on top of my 1/100 Tieren, and he was holding it up! And it somehow missed the small antenna that is on his back pack.
    As for my broken gundams, I’ve had a few, not too exciting of storys, except for my first model, which was a 1/144 Wing Gundam, and when I went to build him, I started popping out all the pieces before construction…and then I forced him together and he broke, which put me off of gundam models for like 5 years lol

    Gunpla seem to love falling off the shelf when I try posing them. Stuff gets lost quite often.

    I usually am able to find what fell, but some stuff just vanishes. Lost my MG Alex’s one Beam Saber and V-fin (currently, it’s not even in one peice cuz I just don’t care for it anymore lol), Lost HGUC Char’s Zaku’s heat hawk + connector piece, and…I think that’s it.

    As for broken stuff, my HG Trans-am Exia’s ass beam sabers broke off (which isn’t that big of a deal) It has to stay in its current pose forever or it’s left arm will fall off. Also, I accidentally cut off a bit of HGUC Hazel Custom’s beam saber (again, not too big of a deal), and I kinda screwed up my MG God Gundam a bit. It has to stay in its current pose forever or it’s left arm will fall off. I also fucked up while assembling the inner frame and it is kinda loose. ^^;

  12. gunthetra Says:

    *Ignore the part about Exia not being able to move. Copy+paste fuck-up <_<

  13. GUNPLAITE Says:

    Hello Z this is C yes i got a new blog just to start fresh. I did have a gunpla with a broken part my hg exia repair 2 got its v fin broken on vacation i did the model away from home.As soon as i came home i glued it all up but the next week surprise visitors arrived and somehow the broken part of the v fin was ripped off again and i could never find it again. LUckily the v fin broke right at where exia repair 1 had its v fin broken :) I finally ripped off an fg exia vfin that i built for someone else its thinner and flimsier and longer but its still looks pretty good. and Z i know this is a little off topic but i was at my local michaels the other day and i foun d dullcote it was a little can that is supposed to work i guess exactly like mr hobby topcoat i havent used it yet but i will do and post my findings on my blog.

  14. TheOneNOnly Says:

    My friends decided to remove my PG Wing Gundam out from the glass case and see if it really could “fly”. Sigh…

  15. Allen Walker Says:

    not much from me besides my NG 1/100 Exia falling repeatedly. i remember most vividly when i was typing up a comment when the thing fell 3 feet and landed splat beside my keyboard o.0 scared me for a while there. nothing broke tho ^^

  16. Fredrex00 Says:

    I’ve had a good portion of models fall down. I had my window open and a gust of wind magically decides to push over my Gundam Astraea…then my Astray Red Frame…then my Dygenguar….then a few of my CD’s and my Chogokin Evangelion Unit 03. Nothing was broken, but they fell apart like my Dygenguar’s arm and upper body fell apart and a leg of my Astray Red Frame fell off, but no major damage. If there is a broken part, I normally fix it right away.

  17. Mathai Says:

    Ouch! thats gotta hurt! I’ve had my toys falling over but thankfully none of them were damaged. :)

    Hope you get time to fix your’s

  18. Adama Says:

    I’ve had minor problems with stuff breaking recently, starting with the MG Titans Gundam Mk-ii 2.0 I built last summer. I got paint or putty stuck in the bazooka’s folding handle and it snapped clean in two. I then glued the handle back together but it won’t move, which is fine but I don’t pose it with the bazooka anyway.

    I’ve been building an MG Zaku 2.0 Shin Matsunaga type, which looks like it has weak joints. The knee joints have hairline cracks in them (sealed with model cement), the C-clip that links the ball joint between the left shoulder and the shoulder pad snapped (fixed good as new), and the links connecting the shoulders to their armor also have cracks in them. I don’t know if it’s the paint or if the ABS plastic is unusually brittle, but so far the (unfinished) model’s looking good and holding up well.

  19. Adama Says:

    Also forgot to add that I somehow screwed up the Mk-II’s left hand and made all the fingers not fit right. I can’t pose them without them wanting to pop each other out the sockets, but at least it doesn’t look too bad.

  20. Z Says:

    Some of the stories I’m reading is making me a bit paranoid about my own shelves. ^^;

    Neosonic, omg… how did you accidentally threw away all the scythes? I know how you feel though… My old deathscythe model’s scythe snapped and now its life is very incomplete ^^;

    bd77, at least you still have your wz. I used to have a 1/144 wz… and over time, all i have left was its left arm TToTT

    Mike, if that was my friend that broke my models, I’d beat him down and force him to get me a replacement >_>

    exkurogane, I think I’ve broken quite a lot more ^^;

    eric, damn man… I’m sorry about your F-91 o_o. holy crap…

    rndm, v-fins… the most vulnerable part of the Gundam

    winkytoe, i like that xD

    Ckai, I am always afraid of breaking things when assembling too… and I actually do break them, usually because I need to pry the parts open because I left out a PC part or something silly.

    Siroh, for your physalis, given how big the shield is, couldn’t it just “lean” against the model and it’ll look like it is holding it? ^^;

    aptkane, wow your wife is so kind :D. I think if it was anyone else, they would blaming the model owner for having these things in the way xD

    dredhawk, gundam without v-fin = tallgeese. sorta.

    brammo, that thing is so big and heavy on its base, how you managed to knock it over? ^^;

    Mesmer, that product looks like fancy blu-tac :D

    gunplaite, cool I’ll check out your new blog from time to time ^^

    TheOneNonly, that would’ve merit a beating… @_@

    It seems that the more careful you are with these stuff, the easier they tend to go wrong and break just to laugh at your wasted efforts… xD
