Badass boxart for the MG Red Frame but not quite as badass as Sword Impulse’s or the Gouf 2.0′s ^^. I would like a bit more dynamic pose similar to the PG box but this is good too. That triangle setup on its back reminds me of Delta Astray…
Now that clean shots of the completed model is out, I think we can now make some speculations… such as the gold parts on the Gerbera Straight. Since it has panel lines, I don’t think it’ll be gold-plated but molded instead… similar to Destiny Gundam EBm’s “chrome” parts. This is a plus so that means there won’t be hideous nub marks and gold paint can actually blend in pretty well :D.
Images from Ngee Khiong
Not sure why Bandai decided to flip the setup on its back into a “V” since I think the other way (*my way*) looks a lot better xD. What’s the point anyway if you’re just gonna rotate it again to put it in flight mode? Anyway… I can’t wait to get my hands on this ^_^
I know all of you are wondering where the heck is the PG Strike review and all that… sorry, life’s been busy socially and academically so I’m working on the photoshoot bit by bit whenever I have the free time ^^;.
*looks at the blog calendar* … … holy cow. Did I really not post a single thing for the last ten days?

Got to agree with you the gold parts don’t look plated ^^ This is a good thing. Not very nice to have the gebera with black nub marks haha.
Btw happy Chinese New Year in advance man :)
February 9, 2010 at 1:51 AM
Damn. I wish Bandai would also release a normal MG Red Frame without the TA, of course for a cheaper price. :|
February 9, 2010 at 1:53 AM
Not that I honestly take things like the following too seriously, but it’s going to be the year of the Tiger, right? Maybe things would look up as far as my Gunpla and gaming collection goes… *shrug* Here’s to hoping that’ll be the case for my twenty-fourth year of life.
Maybe I’ll get this MG when I get used to MGs (starting with either of my ideal first choices I kept mentioning before), but until then, I would sooner get the HG 1/144 Astray Red Frame (and Blue) first, but given your review of the 1/100 Astrays and the articulation of the HG 1/144s, I wouldn’t rule out getting this MG yet.
Given that you kept mentioning here and there that you had the 1/144 Altron Gundam (EW ver.) before (and still might), Z, I was wondering, did you ever get any of the 1/144 Astray models? If you didn’t, would you? (That last question likely calls for a Captain Obvious answer, given at least what this blog entry is about, if not also certain reviews in your HG section. But why not ask? *shrug*)
February 9, 2010 at 2:22 AM
Hmm..about Delta Astray, from what I’ve read about it, it was Lowe that lend his RF to be customize into Delta Astray wasn’t ? Of course, a RF with delta backpack looks so, well, lolz.
February 9, 2010 at 2:31 AM
I believe the triangular setup has a purpose, though I;m not sure…
Well, we’ve got a defector here. Lily Thevalley from Librarian with her Nebula Blitz teamed up with the Astrays as seen in the boxart… That explains the photos seen in the manual of Nebula Blitz where she fought Mirage Frame II… Cute loli gal like her shouldn’t be on the bad side BTW… xD
February 9, 2010 at 3:28 AM
Hopefully the joints won’t be loose.
February 9, 2010 at 4:06 AM
life happens dude. dont fight it. we’ll be here.
February 9, 2010 at 4:15 AM
Well, yeah, that setup is obviously copied from Delta Astray.
You mentioned that the gold is similar to Destiny EBM’s chrome parts? This I beg to differ. Destiny’s EBM chrome is really plated. This MG Red Frame gold is more like MG Strike Freedom’s (normal version) gold.
February 9, 2010 at 4:21 AM
I agree with the box art, it looses his bad ass image. noticed that they reversed the way the 2 katanas and the tactical arms are mounted on this guy.
and Kung Hei Fat Choi man ^^. also Happy Valentines, though I think you don’t also celebrate this “holiday”
February 9, 2010 at 4:34 AM
I’m all giddy about this kit, and would be even giddier if I had the cash to actually buy it. I do agree that the original Wing Configuration was better looking, but this new Voiture Lumiere configuration does allow for some awesome side story potentials! Imagine the cosmic Lowe, traveling on his solitary journey in search of better MS parts to use for development!
February 9, 2010 at 5:29 AM
Don’t count on getting gold plated parts for the swords. Some other scans have shown those are an ugly yellow, so have some gold paint ready.
February 9, 2010 at 5:43 AM
And I thought a single Gerbera Straight was cool…
February 9, 2010 at 8:26 AM
oooohhhhh very cool!
February 9, 2010 at 9:30 AM
It seems like Bandai is focusing a LOT of effort on Astray Frames, which I don’t quite understand. Personally, I don’t like them at all, and each design seems more abstract than the next. The Mirage Frame, while not only gaudy in terms of color, also transforms into a BuCue-like form, which is a bit too Voltron-ish for me.
I wish they’d return to working on 2.0 MGs, or Gundam Unit 7 instead of all these Astray forms.
February 9, 2010 at 11:49 PM
simple. These kits sell better than the ones you mentioned… especially outside japan
February 10, 2010 at 7:03 PM
Since when does bandai care about anything outside of Japan?
February 10, 2010 at 8:43 PM
All they cared about things inside Japan is all the limited merchandises and exclusives especially the Robot Damahii series… =.= Pretty annoying actually… Same goes for some PVC Figures and Prize Items…
February 9, 2010 at 9:49 AM
Though I don’t know about the Astray series, the V shape configuration definitely has some connections with Delta Astray.
Still kinda prefer the first configuration of Red Frame, but I kinda doubt the normal backpack will be included for this MG. Well maybe I am wrong so we shall see when the product is out and we will get to see the runners then.
February 9, 2010 at 2:31 PM
I wish this MG Red Frame was like the PG in that I liked the swords on the same side and not on either side. It looks more authentic to traditional samurai to have the swords on one side and not this commercial rubbish they keep churning out of swords being on both sides. However that is my only grudge as this is a great looking kit. I think the box art is to compliment the simplicity of the kit with samurai influences. More human the mecha I guess. But that’s just my opinion.
February 9, 2010 at 3:33 PM
I’ve waited so long for this kit. ^-^ It’s looks great but the TAII I can pass on, I doesn’t fit the RF much. I would’ve preferred a Flight Pack over that. I’ve placed my pre-order from amiami.com, anyone order from here before?
February 9, 2010 at 4:07 PM
I’ve thinking, could there be the chance that you can somehow adapt the old beam saber backpack from the 1/100 Red Frame to this model? Personally I do like this Kai version, but the classic Red Frame is superior to me.
February 9, 2010 at 5:15 PM
I have a noobish question here ^^;
Since that is’nt the flight pack, where and when did he get that TA or did Bandai just decided to give it to him???????
February 9, 2010 at 6:19 PM
they just gave it to him. that’s why it’s red frame “kai”.
February 9, 2010 at 7:01 PM
It actually is supposed to be the Tactical Arms from the Blue Frame. Lowe transferred it to his mech after Gai’s Gundam got destroyed by the Mirage Frame 2nd Issue.
February 9, 2010 at 11:52 PM
actually i suppose a modified tactical arms of blue frame? Blue frame (BF) is only damaged with the head and right arm chopped off – can be repaired. BTW the backpack can transform into a flight pack.
February 9, 2010 at 5:19 PM
man, just added ur into my blog
February 9, 2010 at 6:01 PM
I don’t personally like ARF, so I’ll stick with ABF :D
February 9, 2010 at 10:52 PM
For some reason, the lower legs look weird to mee…
February 10, 2010 at 12:10 AM
Though as much as I hate Blue frames death, the TA trully belongs to Blue frame no one elso, besides Lowe already has a 150 meter long katana forged from a meteor(some say its kryptonite), It would have been bad_ass if he used the power red arms one more time in seed vs astray, but that be pointless now. Oh yeah did I mentioned this guy punches if he doesnt have blade
February 12, 2010 at 3:56 AM
GOD HAND SMASH!!!!
February 10, 2010 at 2:52 AM
Umm, just to clear a few things up.
@JQ: This isnt a commerical garbage, In delta astray im sure the red frame was like this. ALSO the swords that is in this version “Kai” is called the tiger pierce. Orginal Gereba Straight was destroyed by the gold frame amatsu very easily lol. Speaking of the tactical arms, i think that the tactical arms belong to Red frame originally. Lowe upgrade the blue frame because it was very damaged and gave Gai (the guy who pilots blue frame) the tactical arms.
February 12, 2010 at 5:00 AM
Err, just saw the pic of the actual kit, it was Garbera Straight & Tiger Pierce.
February 10, 2010 at 5:27 AM
I take back everything I said concerning not getting this kit. I feel there’s enough design and functional differences between this and the Blue Frame that justify getting the Red Frame. Much like getting the Strike E + IWSP even though I already had an Aile Strike.
Magikmonkeyman: The two katana shown are the Gerbera Straight AND the Tiger Pierce as seen in some other shots up on Ngee Khiong. The kanji on the blade hilts on the kit show this.
I haven’t assembled my Blue Frame yet, but I wonder if the Blue Frame’s Tactical Arms can be adjusted to be displayed in an upright ‘V’ like on the Red Frame? Early promo shots of the Red Frame showed it like it’s mounted on the Blue. Either way, I like it mounted like it’s shown (not triangular, though) in later pictures.
I also worry about displaying the Red Frame’s Tactical Arms in the optional Flight Mode where it looks like a hang glider…that joint that holds the Tactical Arms to the backpack looks pretty flimsy.
February 10, 2010 at 5:32 AM
@iRemember It does somehow… Maybe the thighs are to fat, he looks like a chicken sort of. small body big legs. Hahhah
February 10, 2010 at 7:15 AM
Don’t worry about the review. We can’t help it if we have other thing to do as well. Life can’t be all about Gunpla now, can it?
Anyways, I’m so getting that Red Frame. Dual katanas are instant win. The TA is something to be considered but I kinda like how it looks in that “Delta” formation. Sorta make it look different from Blue Frame’s.
And yes, yay to CNY! =D
February 10, 2010 at 3:50 PM
OMG OMG OMG DAMN THIS THING IS CRAZY TWO GERBERA STRAIGHTS AND THE TACTICAL ARMS DAMN TREE SWORDS DAMN THAT’S FRIGGING AWESOME MAKE IT GO LIKE ZANKANTOU WITH THE TAC ARMS IN SWORD MODE DAMN I WISH THEY WOULD INCLUDE THE BLUE FRAME’S KNIVES TOO MON AIN’T NOTHING LIKE A SET OF MELEE WEAPONS TO KICK ASS
February 10, 2010 at 6:09 PM
gotta agree with you that the gold parts are not plated which good and makes our lives easier but i think the box art should be more menacing dont you agree?
February 10, 2010 at 6:10 PM
Garbera Straight’s holdster looks sexy ~
February 10, 2010 at 10:08 PM
its about time they made this im getting one
February 10, 2010 at 11:08 PM
@CKai Cydek: oh yeah! my bad,
Also, Since blue and red frame is released. . . Anyone think theres a chance of a gold frame amatsu? Bandai does kidna require alot of work for a model that uses 60% of of the original frames. Blitz arm, The Maga no Ikutach wing things, and all the extra weapons and the the head?
February 11, 2010 at 3:33 AM
Just throwing this out there since it is also sword related… the 00 7 Sword is out!
February 11, 2010 at 4:32 AM
Are you getting it? As far as experience with Gundam 00 kits tell me, I’m gonna wait and be patient. Wait for a 1/100 scale or MG…
February 11, 2010 at 5:03 AM
After glimpsing some reviews and the runners, I am definitely getting it.
Despite people still have a tendancy for leaning over 1/100 or MG stuff, the 1/144 00 Gundam is a surprisingly good plamo. I’ve built it twice so far (a 00 Gundam for my sister’s co-worker, a 00 Raiser + GN Sword III for myself), and I am prepared to build it again for the 3rd time. The designs seem different to other kinds I’ve built so far so I am welcoming it.
February 11, 2010 at 6:00 PM
DAMN THAT”S HOT!!!! NOW IT’S TIME!!!! get two of them, get two Exias, get the original 00, kitbash for 00 let’s see… two busters swords, two gn gunswords, two gn long blades, two gn shorties, four gn katars, four gn tiny pew pew gunswords, two gn spatulas, fourteen gn beam sabers….the ultimate melee machine!!! DY-GEN-GUARD!
February 11, 2010 at 6:04 PM
ME WANT.
February 12, 2010 at 7:57 AM
Gaaaah. I was SERIOUSLY considering getting the HG 00 Raiser + GN Sword III, but now that this kit’s around the corner…
What do you guys think? Is it worth buying the same Gundam all over again but with a different weapon set? I REALLY want the aforementioned kit, but those Seven Swords look way too cool to pass up.
What am I saying? Heh, all this speculation from a guy with like 3 MG Strikes and 2 Impulses :P
February 12, 2010 at 10:46 AM
Whether it’s worth buying the same kit but different weapon set really is down to your own opinion, and not others. I have even gone to an extent of buying 3 HGUC GM Commands and 3 HG Slaughter Daggers etc because I like grunt machines to that extent. So it’s really up to you to decide. To me if I like something well enough then it’s worth it, and for something like 1/144 HGs it’s quite affordable to do that IMHO unless you have to pay shipping fees to get yours.
February 11, 2010 at 5:16 AM
Yea I’ve seen the 00 Seven Swords. -.- But I have the 00+Raiser w/ GN Sword III. I didn’t even realize that it was coming out. So I would have to pass on the 00 Seven Swords. I don’t like to build the same MS over and over…
February 11, 2010 at 6:50 AM
I prefer this form of the 00 over the 00-Raiser, so I just might pick this one up to play around with. And the GN Sword II Blaster looks very sweet. Just hope the 00 can stand without using it for balance. Guess I’ll have to wait for Dalong’s review on it to make a verdict.
February 11, 2010 at 8:46 AM
I’m thinking that so many swords dull the original awsome factor…
The tiger pierce and gerbera straight are cool but the TAII is overkill (yet still very cool). I would have prefered the shield, beam sabers (the handles looked good on the back) instead…
^^
I’ll still get this even though I got the blue frame recently. The red frame’s pretty much one of my favorite gundams.^^
February 11, 2010 at 1:54 PM
I have to agree. Although the TAII is somewhat coolsome, it just doesn’t fit the overall sleekness of the ARF and the two katana.
February 11, 2010 at 7:00 PM
well, you know, maybe it woulda looked sleeker if both katana’s were on the same side?
February 11, 2010 at 6:17 PM
Well, if you guys never liked the backpack, build it and leave it aside, in crossbow form I’d say and leave it plugged on the support stand included. I was thinking of doing so… ^^;
February 11, 2010 at 8:52 PM
I would absolutely love to have RF’s original backpack AND TA. I guess it’s a compromise. :/
February 12, 2010 at 2:00 AM
The triangle thingy has some delta function…
February 12, 2010 at 12:59 PM
Completely unrelated to MG Red Frame’s box art Z, but the item is on the way since I found the email from the Unicorn horn.
February 12, 2010 at 8:05 PM
Ah just checked my email just now. Cool! I’ll keep an eye out for it ^^
February 16, 2010 at 4:18 AM
delta A in red frame kai uses the system “Voiture Lumiere”
the one Destiny & Strike Freedom uses :D
February 18, 2010 at 2:09 AM
For some reason the Tactical Arms in this kit seems kind of tacked on, like it’s not really supposed to be there. I wish they were releasing this without it (hopefully that would make it a lot cheaper too)
February 23, 2010 at 3:27 PM
I put the MG Gundam Astray as my wishlist, but I was given a PG Gundam Astray.
Would you consider this lucky or bad (saying if the MG might just beat the PG.)
February 26, 2010 at 3:18 AM
does the thing on its back turn into the huge sword like the blue frame
February 26, 2010 at 3:21 AM
also is it bad that the strike was the primary gundam on the anime but the astrays are more popular
