The Swords have Arrived…

With finals being just around the corner and last minute assignments due, I won’t have the time to work on anything until Spring break. Heck, I’m not even done with the Unicorn head display yet haha! All the parts are still a mess on the floor. Anyway… A rather unsurprising loot came a few days ago and I only took a glance over one of them…

MG Astray Red Frame: Cool decals… but damn those clear stickers look annoyingly obnoxious to apply ^^;. Maybe I should opt for the waterslides instead…

Gerbera Straight and Tiger Pierce!

it’s the same ****-colored-gold you see from Strike Freedom. Thankfully, I have a few choice of gold paint at my disposal (and so should you!). Got nothing to say for the 007S/G since I haven’t even peeked inside yet ^^;… but it has swords! That’s all that matters to know it is good stuff!

When will I get to work on this model? I have no idea. I am entertaining myself with many Gunpla ideas at the moment, from poses to fights, to even paintjobs (yes you will see a painted model from me this year) that I don’t even know which to make priority TToTT. I’ll definitely go astray after my Unicorn head display though…

I don’t think the waterslides are out yet but give it some time and I think bandai will release them by the time you are ready to go at it.

    The astray frame does feature undergates on quite a number of parts, just a heads up work can go faster there. Though the huge tactical arms balances out the workload in the end. ^^;

    • Z Says:

For some odd reason, Bandai likes to give the Astray underdate connections that no other gunplas have. I like it!

      • ppm Says:

its all for the gold frame. =D

      • T Says:

As ppm said. Though having just finished the inner frame of my BF, I can see the sheer number of parts to be coated means the gold frame’s price will be sky high whenever it comes out.

Tidbit for those interested. The Astray frame has 11 pieces for each ankle.

  2. j19 Says:

Just a heads up, when you complete the red frame, their might be a few spare parts.
i think some of those spare parts are the parts wher you can re-build red frames tactical arms into blue frame (gattling gun + diff handle) :D

  3. Allen Walker Says:

kewl. looking forward to seeing your reviews on these. hopefully sooner than the rest… thanks to the swords! ^^
as T said, you’ll probably have to wait for the waterslides tho…

  4. V Says:

i’m having the same thought of my next getting list after my receive of HG reborn and MG GN-X (still on the way).. all about sword..

  5. EXkurogane Says:

Does yours have the clear parts? I think it should have, considering it’s clear part campaign now… I’m getting this by the end of this month. I didn’t preorder, waitin stores to stock-in, but I’ll probably build it earlier than you so… xD I’m having exams at the same time as you too… T.T End of April…

  6. KKTE Says:

Got mine three days ago. Damn the gabrera straight has a little black dot behind it…. i think it is a defect=.=

  7. ChrisEXE Says:

So, the Seven sword has persuaded you to get a 1/144 HG, which you don’t normally do.
These 2 were the top of my priority list since December, but I dropped the HG because I had already a few HG 00 Gundam.

    • Z Says:

you’re right. under normal circumstances, I don’t buy 1/144′s but I have bought a few already… like the rest of the 00 Gundams in their GHWHWHWHWFJDH form.

  8. tsukinari Says:

Nice get! 7S/G poisoned me too.. altho I already have 00 Raiser ORZ lol… not getting MG GN-X? its kinda cool and nice kit.. except some flaw.. lol… but still its a good kit ^^

  9. ErazEr Says:

Well finally yours arrived. ^^ Red Frame is a good looking kit, hate to spoil what you will expect from him. -_-

so you decided to get the 7 swords too.. thought you are not fond with him to begin with. ^^

anyways good luck on your finals, I’m also experiencing the finals rush here, with pending work on the corner (damn Red Alert 3) I’m getting dizzy looking at them. fortunately I’ve managed to finish a few

    • Z Says:

I am not fond of the 00/Raiser. Add a few swords and random melee weapons to it and that can usually change my mind.

      • ErazEr Says:

Yeah. almost the same with me^^

I’m not very fond of Graham crackers but I find myself collecting some of his suits. (Sekigake Ahead, and the Masurao) and for some insane reason I’m tempted to buy the Overflag… ^^

  10. Ahya Says:

Finally dude, the RF looks promising, but I juss can’t help but think of the BF’s flaws when I think about it… The Sevevn SwordG is a good grab, I bought the 00w/GN SwordIII, regret it when I went to Ngee Khiongs site and saw the Seven SwordsG.

  11. Q Says:

Nice get on Astray Red Frame as well as 00 7S/G~ I too am planning to get the 00 7S/G as well, and several other 1/144s possibly. There sure are a lot of good and/or interesting gunpla releasing even for the 1st half of this year, and I am anticipating to see how a lot of them will look like. In addition I am shifting more and more towards grunt machines recently.

But ack, at least you still get to play around with your gunpla; I don’t think I can seriously do anything about mine until the summer… Maybe at least 1 HG 1/144 kit in April but that will be about it.

  12. Kefkaownsall Says:

Yeah that was quite dissapointing since I’ve been willing to pay an extra 500 yen for chrome gold.

    • rxsiu Says:

The lack of chromeplating calls for airbrushing. I still need to get to work on my PG Astray. Just finished my Assassin’s Creed Gouf Custom for those who are interested. Pics on my blog http://rxsiu.wordpress.com

    • Z Says:

Though i would have liked a better looking gold (or just plain yellow), I still wouldn’t like plated gold because of the nub marks. painted gold is better i think

  13. mastertmg Says:

I ordered it from Rainbow Ten just days after its release.
I’d been looking forward to it since it was announced.
When I first saw the MSV illustrations when they appeared in Hobby Japan, I thought “Why the hell isn’t that in the anime?”
    I still feel that way.

  14. TheOneNOnly Says:

Has anyone built the PG astray and the MG Red Frame yet? If they have, which one would you most probably recommend (literally, which one is more worth it for its price?)

  15. divinelight Says:

Can’t wait to build my 00\7swords, which is yet to come.

oh yeah, what kind of paintjob will you do? AB? handbrush? Gundam marker? Spray Can?

  16. iEric37 Says:

Nice man, I ordered MG redframe a while back, can’t wait, and I think I will be getting MG wing.. And red frame was supposed to be the last. Damn.

  17. Lelouch Says:

I’m not looking forward to the MG Red Frame too much but I really do wanna see the DOUBLE OH! I’ve seen a video review of it, but I wanna experience it in your clean photos. The Buster Sword looks awesome, not to mention there are 6 more and that the small GN Sword can shoot a SLASH HARKEN!

Aaaannnyyywwwwaaayyyyss…after all your studying and finals are over (I know they can really stress you out) can you work on the Lancelot ppllleeeaaaassseee?? I’ve been staring at your Future Projects page constantly and i think somewhere along the way I thought the Lancelot would just start putting itself together. >.>

  18. CKai Cydek Says:

    Good for you, man!

I got lucky with the Blue Frame as far as waterslide decals are concerned – I found a sheet of ‘em just a few weeks after I bought it. I hope to be just as lucky with the Red Frame. I’ll check back at the toy shop I got it from maybe next week to look for it.

I also don’t mind the rusty bronze-like gold on the parts (similar to the parts on the Shin Musha). It has some nubs and parting lines (that MUST be filed or sanded away, else they’ll show on the painted layer) that can be covered with paint. The gold need not be shiny chrome, but just shiny enough to stand out but not overpower the bling of the blades themselves.

The undergates are nice, but I sure wish they were implemented more on other kits that actually NEED them, like the ones with special coating. The Blue Frame has some parts molded in that cool smoky black that leave obvious nubs in spots that SHOULD have had undergates. As a result, they need to be filed or sanded and some of the texture suffers as a result.

  19. sbhboi Says:

The gold runners are just fine, need no bother to strip off the chrome & repaint it with nicer gold color. & now I started to hold grudge on clear stickers for Astrays… Ridiculous !

  20. astrayjohn Says:

it shares alot with the blue frame so it should be able to pose really well

  21. moemoekyun Says:

2 in one kit get both red frame and blue frame weapon :D

  22. mike Says:

they were once in my to-buy-list, until i bought 2 GFFMC this month… But I’d look forward to your MG Red Frame Kai more than the HG 00 7S/G, prefer the former :D

  23. ignitionmode Says:

just got my red frame too, the 2 gerbera straight is the main attraction for me on this kit.

    got to love twin katanas

  24. NyanErius Says:

SHould’ve opened the 00-7S/G first, temptation to build wouldn’t have been as long and problematic, since it’s only seven runners including PC parts (I think). If I can build HGs OOB and study at the same time, I’m sure someone so much more experienced than I can, too.

    • EXkurogane Says:

that’s the 1st time i hear sum1 study n build gunpla simultenously XD for me i’ll finish it within 1 night… for a hg

    • Z Says:

Yea… it’s “only” seven runners… for a 1/144! The Gunpla world sure is amazing.

      and I think “much more experienced” people tend to be slower on their models… or maybe that’s just me ^^;

      • sbhboi Says:

Yes, “much more experienced” tend to fix much much more slower than usual, ‘coz we want it look very nice & to be satisfied with the result of it. =)

      • NyanErius Says:

Hey, the 1/72 Armored Core kits are about the height of the MG Crossbone most of the time, and they don’t have an inner frame. But somehow you get swamped with fifty runners or more. No PG has that many runners.
Personally, what I’d do would be to straight-build it while working, check it out, and then think of what kind of color scheme to give it for the following week-end.

  25. nagisa Says:

I also bought the seven swords, due to well swords too. I will target the rf asap. Planning to build it very slowly and still preparing my custom coloscheme, so confusing

  26. beamknight87 Says:

Sweet, my own MG Red Frame will be arriving tomorrow or Friday at tops. I’m thinking about using Mica Red on it mmm. Anyways, given that I’m still involved in the VF-25S project it’ll be a while before I begin with it.

  27. Crappystuff Says:

    I. Want. One. *daydreams*

  28. eyeshield30 Says:

    aaaaaaaaaaaaa
    swordddd, sworrddd

    i want it too ^^;
but still saving money for new unicorn…

  29. shinra1003 Says:

I’m still on the fence for the Red Frame. I know it’ll look really good next to my Blue Frame but…. I don’t know, the Tactical Arms looks so strange on it. Wish it was cheaper and just came with the 2 katanas. Doubt they’ll release a version like that though

  30. James Says:

My red frame arrived today, but I wasn’t in to accept the delivery… *CRUSHING DEFEAT* T_T

  31. Ed Says:

My pree-order arrived today, and i got the exact kits you got, unless you got more than those two.

  32. iEric37 Says:

Built MG red frame yesterday, you’ll love it. double katanas is very nice :o

  33. EXkurogane Says:

I heard from my friend who finished the red frame -something that i was surprised- despite the bulk on the rear it is VERY stable. O_O A lot better than MG Exia, Strike, and Freedom. Really surprised…

  34. CKai Cydek Says:

Hey, something I noticed as I’m taking my Blue Frame runners out of their bags so I can start building it…

There’s only like…2 runners of ABS plastic on here! I expected the inner frame – which is pretty much everything blue on this kit (as opposed to red on the Red Frame), to be made of sturdy ABS.

Now I’m starting to understand the abundance of polycaps here. Normal PS plastic probably wouldn’t be able to handle the stress of the joints without some kind of smooth polycap surface to reduce friction. I’m a little disappointed in this regard, but I guess I’ll see what happens after it’s built.

I’m starting to worry about the Red Frame’s stability now.

    • EXkurogane Says:

2 runners of polycaps. Mostly used up. The only issue you may experience is back-heaviness, but it can stand better than the Exia. Andi heard RF is a further improvement when you compare it to the BF.

  35. Educatedfool25 Says:

Just finished building, and I’m about to start detailing. I will say though that I didn’t enjoy the look of the tactical arms on the back of the RF. If anything it looks best when kept in bow form. I think I’m going to kit bash the backpack from my 1/100 RF onto this.
