Beginning with the Blue Frame first. I just started on it last night and man, I can’t believe all the little gritty details I have to ink in o_o. If I do the panel line for one part, then I have to do it everywhere otherwise it looks half-assed. I’m just glad I got the damn hands out of the way at least; I remember how much it sucked to paint the 1/100 Red Frame’s hands. I di d a crappy job on it but oh well >_>.
This package came in the mail yesterday so let’s see what’s inside…

March 18, 2010 at 4:28 PM
Is that paint?
Haha you gotta tell me tips and tricks for the Blue Frame. Got mine as well, and haven’t started building.
March 20, 2010 at 7:34 AM
that’s plenty of top coat actually ^^;
March 18, 2010 at 4:32 PM
I can hear the joy from all those cans of top coat from over here.
March 18, 2010 at 4:47 PM
wow… how did u get that much top coat? black market deals? lol
March 18, 2010 at 6:06 PM
oh, oh, oh, u started on the blu frame! :D:D:D:D:D. whoa. and where did all that top coat come from?
March 18, 2010 at 6:29 PM
That’s one huge stash of top coat you got there ;)
March 18, 2010 at 6:32 PM
paints? or topcoats?
You started your Blue Frame? Mine is still in box, waiting for his turn.
March 18, 2010 at 7:01 PM
Whhhhat?!! More Topcoat stock??? Where in the heck did you load up on that?!
March 18, 2010 at 7:11 PM
Good job with the painting of the hands! You really aren’t the painting type (no offence) but you did a good job with the hands…especially considering it’s white, which is one of the harder colours the apply.
LMFAOWTFBBQ?!?! I literally fell outta my chair when I scrolled down and found ten cans of topcoats staring me in the face. Your little commentary is hilarious too. But how did you get your hands on them? Weren’t chemical items banned from export…? Unless…
March 18, 2010 at 8:38 PM
ten cans of top coar? thats crazy!!!.. i think spray can still can export out from Japan.. i still can get some new stock in my country.. mm.. can’t wait to see you pose this kit..
March 18, 2010 at 9:56 PM
that’s one night worth of work? you work very fast!
March 18, 2010 at 10:11 PM
Wow, that’s almost half as many cans as the stock I see every week at the local asian mall. Except yours’re probably not overpriced like the ones ’round here. Or did you pay $25 per can for these, too? Must’ve had one hell of a payday this month, bud’.
March 18, 2010 at 10:56 PM
25$!?! for ONE CAN OF TC!?!… dude, that’s is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to overpriced… i think…. what’s the normal price of top coat? ^^;
March 19, 2010 at 12:35 AM
I think he wasn’t referring to US dollars… a can of top coat costs up to RM35 at the bigger malls where I’m staying (considerably less if you shop around elsewhere).
March 19, 2010 at 3:49 AM
The cheapest in M’sia i could find for the large can is RM 30… =.=
March 19, 2010 at 11:48 PM
I paid roughly $8 for each can above. Not bad considering how hard it is to get them where I am.
March 21, 2010 at 12:02 PM
No, USD is what I was talking about, technically CAD, but since they’re the same, there’s no use in confusing anyone.
March 18, 2010 at 11:31 PM
You completed that much of the Astray overnight? o_0
March 19, 2010 at 11:48 PM
Yep. That’s what I said.
March 19, 2010 at 1:22 AM
Wooo… that’s lots of topcoats… and pretty fast work considering you ensure your kits clean. Bandai is releasing 1/144 “MG”, called real grade (RG). Yes, 1/144s with inner frames and decals included, apparently to increase flexibility and prevent the kit from loosening fast… =.=
March 19, 2010 at 6:30 PM
thats a fun way to milk MG’s, Bandai.
March 19, 2010 at 11:47 PM
I saw that but i’ll be lookign forward to some other models beside the RX-78-2…
March 19, 2010 at 3:45 AM
Wah~~~I envy you. You have just increased your stash of flat topcoat. I don’t have the money to get even more than 1 MG per month, and there you go, 10 cans of magic paint there.
March 19, 2010 at 5:55 AM
OMG AT THAT LOAD OF TOP COAT FLAT!!!!!! ITS A FORTUNE IN AUSTRALIA $13.50 AUD A CAN!!! Man i seriously envy the japanese selling them at a mere 600yen =_=
Also im very excited about your Blue frame project ^ ^
Also grats to you, If your starting on your models again means your exams are over… right? If so i wish you well in your results
Im in middle of year 12 half yearlies =_=|
And i got a Sinanju, Unicorn HD+Cage,MG Blue+Red Frame
waiting for me ><
And glad your back into the action and have fun!!
June 15, 2010 at 2:44 AM
hey wait!
where can i get it??
i’m in melbourne by the way
i need it desperately
haha
March 19, 2010 at 6:23 AM
TOP COAT?????? wow, thought you’ll never get any of those any time soon. ^^; so how did ya get em?
well as expected the blue frame is an easy build, but i cant believe you finished the upper torso, arms and head that fast.
March 19, 2010 at 8:04 AM
Have you or anyone else here ever used Mr. Super Clear Flat? I can’t find Top Coat anymore here in NYC and wanted to know if this was comparable to Mr. Top Coat.
March 19, 2010 at 8:46 AM
I think they are pretty much the same thing. The difference is only the amount.
March 19, 2010 at 9:39 AM
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/488910
Near the bottom of the page.
You can’t tell much from the pictures but I hope it helps anyway.
March 19, 2010 at 11:14 AM
I want to try Mr. Super Clear Flat but the damn can is a little more than double the price but not double the amount orz.
March 19, 2010 at 9:36 PM
Have you tried the clear topcoat, flat “UV-cut” version? I guess you can put your kit by the window if you topcoat with that. Well you might probably not need it compared to me who lives in a hot tropical country. I haven’t seen one in stores but saw in Dengeki magazine. Must be xpensive… =.=
March 19, 2010 at 10:33 AM
Nice score on the top coat. My buddy who runs a hobby shop tells me that you can get the cans out of Japan, You only have to ship it SAL (i.e. on a boat). Apparently, the ban was specific to shipping things via airplane due to a fear of these things exploding.
March 19, 2010 at 11:11 AM
I’m sure SAL is fine for shipping those chemicals too but the problem is that online stores like r10 and hlj ceased to carry them online.
March 19, 2010 at 6:31 PM
so where u score them online?
March 19, 2010 at 11:46 PM
i can’t find them anywhere online.
March 19, 2010 at 11:27 AM
Since most of you are asking… I thank HK for the top coat. My friend helped me picked ‘em up ^^.
March 19, 2010 at 6:28 PM
so where u get topcoat now? I live in NYC and i can’t find a hobby store thats in stock. IMMA ABOUT TO PUNCH MYSELF IN MY DING FROM THE FRUSTRATION!
