Yes, I only got them because they were on sale… and when the dollar was actually worth something. and they were from HLJ through SAL shipping so it wasn’t much.
Z’s probably not gonna get into resin kits such as that conversion, since it takes helluva long a time to make and Z has his career on the line, and technically resin kits don’t count as Gunpla, right Z?
Z, could you please please please please build the Hi-Nu and review it? I have been drolling for that MG for quite some time now and if you say it’s good then I’ll get it! PLEASE!!!
The Hi-Nu is a nice model, but its joints are VERY stiff, and you may end up breaking pieces(I broke the crotch connection to the leg after trying so hard to rotate the leg). And the full burst effect is not cool at all. NOT COOL. Mainly because the fin funnels are way too heavy and the plastic rods sag under all that weight. And there are quirks here and there that required super glue or cement to fix(beam saber slot on the arm, and the loose vulcan clip on the other arm). However, it is still a REALLY cool looking model after completion, despite what some might say about the head, I for one like it very much and it doesn’t obstruct the articulation there at all. And having the chrome orange pipes at the back is a nice touch. I screwed my Hi-Nu up after intense piss off after the crotch broke. I wanna get another one though.
Z, whatever happened to the Rezel man? I mean I’m sorta dying to see how it turns out because Dalong tends to have some low standards for MGs nowadays that I don’t feel like I can judge by his rating anymore. Even if he listed quirks I can’t understand what it was cuz its all korean~
Been working on 7 sword 00 Raizer these days, panel lining in metallic green to give that GN feeling. I realized that the metal build don’t come with the sword II blaster eh.
Well, about having low standards, I come to think that if one has high standards for Gunpla (let alone the all-important Master Grade models), one is going to whine and complain to no end and either get only one or two models at best, or contradict him/herself and still get this and that model despite all the hounding on it for whatever reason, and still might sick on it to no end; declaring it a waste. As if he/she had essentially two personalities in his/her head.
If you take a look at Dalong’s MG reviews from #1 to the latest, note how far in quality they have come. The current GW and 00 MGs coming out have much more to offer than the very first RX-78 MG and following Zakus from the mid-90s. I planned on getting a Zaku II, and while I’m disappointed that the only Zaku MGs sporting cracker grenades are the first ones (maybe only the standard one), I’d be more disappointed in everything else if I get that over the 2.0. (I might buy the first anyway, but it’d be a waste to only search for and pluck the grenades for the 2.0 to use, so it’s likely I won’t.)
Hell, I’m used to 1/144 NGs I’m building left and right; having yet to get to my first MG (I’m taking my sweet time with the 1/144s, apparently, since I have a couple more to go, plus an HG). Everyone complains that the plastic is too flimsy and it isn’t color-accurate straight built and therefore ugly and unappealing.
It’s as if people want them–and all other Gunpla–to be sturdy figures like the MSiAs and RDs out there when models–by definition–aren’t. (My very first HGUC–the GP02a–can attest to it’s quality plastic with a broken arm or two.) And when they are figures, people complain about the price, forgetting the fact that labor was put into completely building and detailing them in actual sturdy plastic, and the fact that currency values go up and down, and a few other factors out there.
So yeah, I tend to have some low standards, too (compared to what seems to be the mainstream out there)… *shrug*
There’s some cheap alternative options out there if you want the cracker grenades.
1. Contact GG for the spare parts (I don’t see how they would cost more than a couple of bucks)
2. Stick a piece of nestle buncha crunch in the Zaku’s hand
#1: I’ve been to GG’s Inf. site, and it doesn’t even list reissues or limited editions of the early Zaku MGs, let alone the only one that ever had cracker grenades (MG #2: MS-06F/J Zaku II). I understand GSaM does something similar, but the closest available parts come from the 2nd MG: Char’s Zaku. Sure enough, the exact model (MG #3) and other editions of are available, but I’m not in the mood to dish out the money for it.
And while I’m a bit more interested in HCM-Pros than you are, I’m not in the mood to hunt for the only Zaku figure in the line-up that has them, or the MSiA line for either the EMSiA or 2nd Edition of. *shrug* I’d like to one day, say (for example), snap an action photo of an MG Zaku II 2.0 having thrown a cracker grenade, and showing it flying towards an MG Wing (insert version here) that might want to use those wing verneiers pretty quickly. A photo like *that*. I can’t even do that in 1/144-scale for a Borjarnon vs. FLAT fight unless I want to try my damnest to clip ‘em out of official photos and into a photoshopped picture. The new RG Zaku II (just freshly announced) follows this trend of making crackers unpopular.
But as I mentioned before, if I go the figure route, the most recent products containing ‘em are the HCM-Pro and MSiA lineups, with RD soon to follow! Too bad my MSiA Wing (TV ver.) is so crappy, and newer HCM-Pro figures might not drop down in price.
#2: Not the same. :P But I’ll think about giving it a try one day, if I can superglue and paint one up from ‘em… Then watch it fall apart. I wish my HGUC Zaku II had an open hand for it… *shrug* But that suggestion reminds me… Don’t cracker grenades sorta look like that old toy with the spiky ends (and two-to-four ball ends)? I forgot the name of it, let alone if I’m accurate about it…
(Ugh… I can’t believe I just went on and on and on about cracker grenades… But like I mentioned on the front of my DA page, it seems I can’t summarize my thoughts down to even a paragraph for the life of me. :) )
Hm… that’s a really good question. Flat-out time consumption definitely goes to the assembly process but taking the pictures and writing the review is taxing in its own ways too and it sometimes does take more time than the assembly.
I think the build requires patience. Photographing and review is quite long imo as posing some of the gunpla and thereafter liking the photo captured is another story and might take quite a long while before a pleasing pose is photographed.
I would say photographing and reviewing would take longer than the actual building itself.
Hmm, agree with Elvin’s. Photographing, posing, and picking the photos could take quite some time.
But the story would be different, if we do some mods, painting, or others……
By the way, along with that bit of an RG Zaku II coming out, there’s also announcements of an HGUC GM III, RD Tallgeese III (III must be the luckier number this time around…) plus it’s eventual entry into Gundam Extreme Vs. (the model number was in the first ever preview, and it was blatantly in the EW sub-promo/arcade run intro).
Oh, and (I guess) the best for last: MG Epyon’s sword is revealed! Well… Half. I’m already noticing one glass-half-empty comment over at GG’s over the lack of blade, and I’m fearing it might come true over here too. *sigh* Look, there’s a little more of an intimidating look to the hilt and it’s appealing (to me). I’m sure the huge blade will be forthcoming, and maybe we’ll get a “swing” effect for it kinda like in Wing’s HCM Pro figure… And even if not, if the flat/wide plasma blades of DS and SL are of any indication, I don’t think I’d be disappointed at Epyon’s upcoming.
If anything seems iffy to me, it may be the size of the shoulder armor, but I got too damn used to Okawara’s huge ones that people say don’t work out so well for such an oh-so realistic design of a futuristic super war mecha, and the style of Epyon’s shoulder armor here is sleek as it is.
yow Z, are you not getting a DATE MASAMUNE nendoroid? it looks pretty cool to me compared to L and Lights Nendoroid, puchi version of them looks better.
Hey, Z, are you planning anything special with the MG Force Impulse (since you already have one built and reviewed) and/or the MG Destiny Gundam (since you have the Exrteme Burst)?
Just curious. I can’t help but find it odd that you’d have an extra model or another (arguably lesser) version of a model you already have (not counting the NG 1/100 Destiny, obviously).
Also, that Hi-Nu has been waiting there for a while… I wonder if that’ll ever see the light of day… <_<
*wave* Glad you managed to get a bit of School out of the way, even if you still have a ways to go, Z. I think I can still wait a while until you’re finished to see what you’re up to Gunpla/hobby-wise. *shrug* I’m thinking… Around a month and a third left until you’ve gotten it behind you? And does this mean the trip you were planning is out of the picture for this year? Just wondering…
…And my condolences on your GFF Gundam X. I guess my GFF Wing got off lucky with a slightly-loose wing (since ’09) and a lost part of an index finger… But I hope you can somehow fix your GFF GX and have left intact (unlike my 1/144 Sandrock Kai ver. EW that remains partially legless, despite my superglue efforts).
Hello Z, what do you thing of the Seed vs. Astray Line?.. are they worth getting? :o
Thanks for the reply and hope you can resume gunpla activities soon(er).XD
Those are 1/100 NG kits. They are not as nice looking as MG, and there is barely any improvement over the base kit other than just the outlooks. Prone to ugly big ass feet. :) If you want a good NG get the Destiny, Vent Savior, 2nd Issue Mirage Frame, or Legend, the Seed Vs Astray kits using Seed era bases are really nothing impressive, other than the Astrays.
Hey Ra-eLLE, thanks for replying ^^ anyway..wow..i never thought the legend would be a good one :O I’ll keep an eye out for it. Anyways, i was asking about the hail buster and regen duel coz i never got any of the original seed machines..so i was wondering if these guys are worth getting..XD
From how I see it, Hail Buster would be alright. Personally I like the Hail Buster too and still am on the fence about getting it. Mainly because it looks helluva lot better than the original Buster. Regen Duel looked a little too tacked on for me, like the guns and cannons are just sorta stuck on just to clutter it up. ALSO YOU CAN’T BE A DUEL WITHOUT ASSAULT SHROUD! Yup, they completely ditched it, and made the Duel fat. The Hail Buster looks really, really, REALLY good. So you can get that, and I don’t think you’d be minding the big feet as much on that guy. For original seed machines, you want to get the Original Duel, Blitz can be ditched for Nebula Blitz since all Blitz parts are included(My GF built it), Aegis is good too, but if you want to get the Strike then grab the MG versions. Are you into HGs? The Cgue, the Kerberos BeCue, Stargazer, and lots more are really good too. I have built a ton of the Seed / Destiny HGs back in the day cause they were hella cheap ^^.
I see, Cool, from what i’ve got..it’s Legend..then Hail buster..XD Im not so much into HG’s since over here it’s more than half the price of 1/100s(close to 2/3 or 2/4). And as for MG’s im saving up and getting them when money is not so tight anymore ^_^. I plan to get a strike, and it’s the strike noir XD
If you can find the 1st Edition Legend it’s even better ^^. Oh the the base Strike has quite a bit of problems and quirks though. I don’t mean to discourage you but, I really wouldn’t go for the Strike, or Strike Rouge for MG. Reason being: 1. Other than the PG Strike, all other forms of Strike suffer from an ugly face plate IMO. 2. Design flaws, it is the first MG of the Seed series employing a new frame, a test bed. 3. Overall look: Strike can be called a relatively old MG around 2004 ish, however it just looks sort of bare due to lack of detailing, some looks good without detailing, and some needs it, but the Strike is sorta stuck in between which is awkward. Strike-E(Noir, IWSP) versions are a great step up, but not really as much as the Impulse which sorta makes the MG Strike seem like an NG standing next to it. Well, it’s really up to you, but the Impulse is probably the same price as the Strike, if not only a few dollars more.
Oh. Well i do know that the impulse is definitely good. Anyway, let’s say you only got money for one kit, what is the best one to get for NG’s(e.g. legend, hail buster, astraea)? For MG’s(taking into account the 7sword and other wing gundams which coming out)?
For NG, I’d get the Tieren Ground Type 1/100. Unless you don’t like the design, that thing has MG articulation as well as intense details. Otherwise I’d go for with Avalanche Exia, mainly because Seed NGs suffer from lack of hands.
For MG, get a Sinanju, however some stores end up selling it for over $135, but it has great articulation, without forgetting great design, as well as loads of accessories and gimmicks, not to mention a whopping 23cm standing height. But if you are financially unprepared, steer away from the 00 MGs, because their joints are not very sturdy and prone to breaking. There’s a lot of choices for MG. But I’d suggest getting a Strike Noir with action base since I suppose you’re a fan of seed. Okinawa Wing Gundam is a BEAUTY in MG, same with the Epyon, those two are really nice.
Am not really a pure fan..haha, but okay, i’ll keep those stuff in mind. Right now im thinking of getting an astraea since the cool mg’s havent reached here yet..XD Anyway, thanks for replying again :D

You should just write the date of when you have obtained each model and build it in the order you obtained it.
February 19, 2011 at 10:13 PM
Nah… i like to build my model in whatever order I’m in the mood for at the time ^^.
January 17, 2011 at 7:51 PM
Have fun with EBM. It’s wings are truly a sight to behold!
Question: Where do you purchase your decal sets? Everywhere I go online is sold out or doesn’t even carry them.
February 19, 2011 at 10:14 PM
i got them longggg ago at hlj.
June 7, 2011 at 9:20 PM
Sad face.
:(
… No, not that one.
ToT
… Better.
February 19, 2011 at 10:07 PM
when are you gonna start on the 00 raiser?
February 19, 2011 at 10:12 PM
good question… definitely not this year though.
February 20, 2011 at 10:14 AM
is that the same strike noir in your review section?
February 20, 2011 at 7:40 PM
by that, you mean a new model of the same one? yes.
February 20, 2011 at 3:01 PM
I’ll blindly assume that the reason why you have so many duplicate MG models is because you got them on sale…
…so that being said, where IS said sale?! Prices on Gunpla barely go down and most online stores just charge regular and/or inflated prices.
I’m well aware that HLJ has killer prices and sales all the time, but their shipping is simply ridiculous!
February 20, 2011 at 7:41 PM
Yes, I only got them because they were on sale… and when the dollar was actually worth something. and they were from HLJ through SAL shipping so it wasn’t much.
February 21, 2011 at 3:20 AM
A man of patience i see
February 21, 2011 at 5:13 AM
Z! what happened? busy lately
March 8, 2011 at 12:13 AM
oh wow…you’re getting Hi Nu…get the HWS transformation kit as well..{I heard that there is one}
March 12, 2011 at 7:32 PM
Z’s probably not gonna get into resin kits such as that conversion, since it takes helluva long a time to make and Z has his career on the line, and technically resin kits don’t count as Gunpla, right Z?
March 12, 2011 at 9:30 PM
technically? Well, resin is not plastic… so guess it is not GunPLA xD
April 20, 2011 at 3:14 AM
So…. GunRES perhaps??? :P
March 12, 2011 at 7:33 PM
Where’s Ryuubi? Just finished Kan’U today after a load of puttying and spraying..
March 12, 2011 at 9:33 PM
Those two sengokuden models were souvenirs from my friend from his trip to HK ^^.
March 12, 2011 at 11:39 PM
I can’t wait to see reviews of DyGenGuard & Ausentier…you don’t happen to have Rein Weissriter don’t you?
April 19, 2011 at 2:40 PM
The model? I do not.
April 9, 2011 at 7:15 PM

The Hi-Nu is a nice model, but its joints are VERY stiff, and you may end up breaking pieces(I broke the crotch connection to the leg after trying so hard to rotate the leg). April 14, 2011 at 1:31 PM

Hey Z, are you going to grab the DMK Tomy Optimus and/or BumbleBee? Just wonderin’. Optimus is like the size of a PG O.o
