Z, where is your exia trans-arm?
Have you finished it? When will you put it to the review? I really look forward for it.

    oh, the project went into hiatus thanks to a snow storm…then Sinanju came in ^^;

*wave* Just some questions regarding some HG models, Z…

I remember before you mentioned you had the old HG 1/144 Altron Gundam (EW/Katoki ver.) model, and that it might’ve been a pain to make it look decent for modern-day standards (though a review of the HG Gundam Sandrock EW ver. suggested the EW models are a step up from normal GW models). Looking at pictures of both Altron and Sandrock models (and contents itself) both touched up and just assembled makes me think that some painting and a couple other requirements are necessary.

Here are my questions: What did you use as far as paint and the means to apply it (Hand-brushing, spraying, or some combination of, or something else)? And would you recommend it to someone pretty much green in building Gunpla? Or would you just encourage usage of imagination, apply the stickers, and just have fun with it? Anything else needed, such as some cement or glue of some kind? *shrug*

I figured I should ask some questions now before starting on either of my EW models (and potentially messing them up), and maybe I’d pick up some experience building these older models before going to my HGUC Gundam Physalis (Type-MLRS) model.

well, I got my 1/144 Nataku back in 2001 so all I did was snap-built the thing like my first MG ^^;. As much as I can remember, the thing looks very disappointing… almost on the same level as NG 1/144 wing models and way below HGUC quality. The “HG” part only means it has more polycaps at the time (for more articulation). It wasn’t very aesthetically pleasing to the eye like how there are loads of foil stickers and mono-color pieces (foot is supposed to be white/black but it’s composed of two solid dark green halves, also the face is pure white, etc). I would say it’s too much effort to put into it if you are green ^^;. Just have fun with it I’d say. It’s also this exact model that puts me off on anything “1/144″ until my Exia. Hope that helps.

Well, I just didn’t want my Wing ver. Ka GFF to be lonely, A., and B., incase both Sandrock and Altron become the disappointments worldwide predicted (I had some experience *many* years ago with two NG Wing kits, but my memory’s too fuzzy and I only have a WGZ leg remaining), I have my HGUC Physalis (Type-MLRS) with the different weapons to build and try out.

I was trying to picture myself using masking tape and spray-painting Sandrock’s big heat shotels silver, then maybe trying something similar or going hand-brushing and give it the “Ver. Ka” color scheme of shades of gray and gold. I guess I’m too green for that now (though I’ve seen it done on other websites), and might wait around half-a-decade before I decide of, say, going wild with an HG/MG kit in painting it in some color scheme, or take inner-frames of one MG and putting it in an older one, or something. *shrug* But for now, I might just have fun posing my Altron and Sandrock and just use some imagination… Or improve my Paint Shop Pro skills. But tweezers and wire-cutters would definitely be needed.

In any case, whenever I get around to the GP02A, while I’m sure you’re still pretty much backlogged, I’ll still give my two cents on whether or not you should get one someday. And water my mouth over what you can do with EW kits and B-Club add-ons:

    Man, I really, really, wanna try getting back to 1/144s. Thing is, MGs have spoiled me silly. Not to mention the tinier parts will be tricky for me to assemble & do line detail, as I have big, stubby hands -_-;

These new UC HGs are impressive, though! And since they don’t cost as much, I think I’ll give ‘em a try! The upcoming Nu Gundam HWS and Hi-Nu Gundam look like a great place to start once more!

  8. lilb0ibastard Says:

well, half of your HG’s are safe and sound with me xD

  9. Z Says:

    they better be…

  10. Lelouch Says:

I see no HG 1/144 Gundam Seed models…care to review some if you can? I don’t even know if you have any, and considering the fact that you haven’t posted in a while and you’re all ranting about work and school I guess its too much to hope for. ^^lll

No offence was intended, but I just thought I’d let you know on what I expect to see in the future. ^^

  11. Z Says:

nah, I don’t have any HG 1/144 SEED models… nor do I intend on getting any. With the exception of stargazer maybe. They just don’t have any appeal to me.

  12. Allen Walker Says:

whoa. that seravee picture caught me by suprise until i saw that coming soon sign…

  13. oP Says:

if there is a clear part….did you spray or paint it to its colour?

  14. Z Says:

    I handbrush it on

  15. oP Says:

how can I learn how to handbrush it???

  16. Jonnay Says:

Real easy, get some paint, Mr Hobby thinner and appropriate brushes.

For fine detailing, you can get the small brush that Z uses. I usually use markers for fine detailing, so I paint with a regular art brush :/

Mix a bit of paint with the thinner. Don’t use up the whole bottle straight away :O

Probably start with a kit you don’t mind messing up, like HGs or SD/BBs. My first painted kit was a HGUC Kampfer, painted it a rocking metallic blue. Very easy, just make sure the paint isn’t too thick or too runny. Too thick, and you can see the brush strokes. Too runny, and the original color comes up from below the coat :|

  17. oP Says:

wew…thanks a lot….maybe I can try it on my broken HG strike Freedom….

  18. Siroh32 Says:

This may be a simple question with an answer of Captain Obvious-potential, but since it just popped into my head as I’m building my next model, I want to ask… Has Bandai ever made Gunpla (or even any model) completely out of what’s used for joints in Gunpla? I mean, imagine a Gunpla–any Gunpla (like another RX-78 for example)–with only PC runners? I mean, as I’m twisting them off, you have very little-to-no nubs after you twist them off… Is it that I’m just describing unassembled Gundam figures, essentially? Or…? *shrug*

  19. Z Says:

I think there’s a reason why Bandai doesn’t make gunplas out of the polycap materials… it’s too soft and if the design of the parts are too complicated (more than the joint design I supposed) then you risk warps/impurities/fitment issues unlike those of action figures/GFF. Just a thought…

    • Siroh32 Says:

Well, as I was assembling my latest model (I just basically finished it), it just felt like the plastic I was assembling was more fragile than the PC parts used for the joints; that if I ever had a Gunpla made out of such material, if I were to try repeating a mistake I made with my Sandrock model, I wouldn’t have another Zeong-esque Gunpla.

  20. KururugiSuzaku Says:

Nice reviews!!! I kinda like some of reviews because most of them have comical contents at the end… XD.. anyway, when do you thick you will review the lancelot? It looks interesting… more power on you blog…

    • Kefka Says:

Probably never since that is his prize for the 4Koma contest.
BTW Z tomorrow I get my 1/100 Cherudim. I’ll try to do a review on Deviant Art. Can you critique it?
