First encountered this thing on the game Gundam Battle Assault series and it was an awesome combo machine if used properly (especially in 2). Sadly, its appearance in MSG was not memorable at all (though it did more in the 08th MS team by pwning a pseudo-Gundam). I was just all too happy to heard about its MG release back in the day and decided to pick it up when other priorities were taken care of. Soon after its release, it was almost universally agreed that it was a great (or one of the best) MG (it was also the first MG that Dalong gave a 100 to).
OUT OF THE BOX
HUGE parts on the runner. Awesome effect parts. A display base. Screws and spring(!) for the right arm/claw. No foil stickers.
BODY UNIT
Very different construction than a Gundam, the Acguy’s body is one solid chunk of plastic when assembled. It’s almost the size of a small potato. There are mechanisms on the parts where the limbs attach that allows them to pop out. The body unit consists of the backpack and the (lack of a) “waist”. So after the body, the model is already 25% done.
HEAD UNIT
I look at its head… and I just laughed. It reminds me of a hamburger for some reason. Giant clear dome is easy to smudge and scratch. Painted the eye with clear red because the pink CLEAR STICKER for it looks stupid.
ARM UNIT
This section has the most parts by far. Nothing too fancy but the spring-loaded claw is full of win. You press the “button” (gun nozzle I believe) on the center and the claw shoots out. As far as I know, this is the only MG with spring-loaded action!
LEG UNIT
Easy and simple construction yet effective in getting the articulation across. The fans beneath the feet can actually spin!
DISPLAY BASE
The EASIEST display base I’ve ever constructed. Three pieces- snap, snap, plop. DONE!
COMPLETED MODEL
Flat topcoated. I left off all of the decals except the Zeon insignia since I want it to look more “fun” than a “serious mobile suit” (which it really isn’t… haha).
CLOSE-UP
The Acguy is actually not small despite its looks and cute stature. It has has short arms and legs but they can also extend out.
Default Form
Extended… yea, it’s not as noticeable as MG Unicorn’s but the height growth is there^^;
I wish they would’ve put the release button to the claw at a better spot where your finger doesn’t obstruct the claw every time it springs out… but then the model wouldn’t be so smooth so I guess that works.
SIZE COMPARISON
Extended vs. RX-78-2 Ver. 2.0
Short
MG Turn A
MG F91
PLAYFUL
Other MGs such as Gundams look stupid when you put them in funky poses but the Acguy looks just cute xD.
This is the pose I left it in after the review.
range of articulation is absolutely amazing. Completely unrestricted in just about any direction!
Meditating…
The Acguy also have near-360 degrees field of vision as the eyes can move just about everywhere around its head… including the back!
More Silliness
Haruhi approves!
ACTION!
It’s just hilarious to see it run xD
Now that I think about it… the Acguy would not look out of place in Gurren Lagann’s world. It looks like a Gunman!
Them be some deadly claws
With no hands and no additional weapons, it is a bit hard coming up with action poses for this (Ac)guy ^^;
ACGUY KICK!
EFFECT PARTS
You know Bandai loves a model when they even bother to include DRILL underwater effect parts for it! It certainly adds a lot more motion to its poses!
Though they could have included two more missile effect parts and have all the missiles firing at once…
You get to arrange the effects however you like and with whichever missile you like.
It really does look cool!
PROS
- Superior articulation and unrestricted/unobstructed range allows the Acguy to do more poses than just about any other model out there.
- Solid, rigid and well balanced. I don’t think this model will ever fall by itself or cause any posing problems too soon.
- Easy and fun to assemble.
- Spring loaded claws!
- Most importantly, girls dig the Acguy. They will all go “OMG it’s so cute! LOL” which is usually follow by “so umm… what exactly is it?”
CONS
- It is piloted by Akabanana or however you spell the name of the dude in the gorilla suit.
VERDICT
Whatever your opinion of the Acguy is, whether it looks ugly and stupid or cute and cuddly, there should be absolutely no doubt that this is hands down one of the best MG released by Bandai in terms of playfulness and enjoyment. Even if it is not, it is one of the few where I can say it is just about flawless; there really isn’t anything noteworthy to complain about for this model (due to the fact that it is so plain and simple… but that’s the charm). The Acguy rocks!

I you you meant “teddy bear” its claws.

After seeing your review I should consider to purchase this someday (when I get a chance to) since it indeed does look very cute for a mobile suit. XD
When you see a MS like, you truly wonder, whoa re the designers for the Zeon MSes? Some of there MSes, notably the Zaku line, do not actually look as menacing as what they are intended for (IMO) and this Acguy is no exception. XP
I didn’t know they gave effect parts for the feet. Makes it looks more awesome with those effects. Kinda makes the Acguy look like it has drills under its feet.
May 30, 2010 at 8:46 AM
Nice Acguy review!!! I think that one looks like a future purchase because I like it’s articulation.
Got a question for you too!
I have the HGUC 1/144 GM Quel, and the trigger finger hands are falling off as soon as I put the gun on it. It’s on both trigger finger hands. I don’t know what to do, but i;m thinking about crazy gluing the hands together so it won’t fall off but, how will I get the gun on anyhow? My GM Quel looks amazing but it would look better with he rifle on it. I think the Quel uses the same hands as you Hazel. The Quel’s hand is made up of 3 parts btw!!!
Anyone else that knows a solution can pitch in and help as well! Please if you are helping take you time answering my question. Thanks you very much for your time.
May 31, 2010 at 2:01 AM
you can try giving the finger peg a few layers of paint to thicken it a bit so there is friction between the parts and hopefully that will hold it in place
May 30, 2010 at 11:29 AM
i like the cons! :)) surprisingly this is a great kid! i feel like i underestimated it! hahaha hmmm ganna grabe one and see for myself
May 31, 2010 at 3:11 AM

btw the effects part was great….hope they include for other kit too ….=( lol….
May 31, 2010 at 4:23 AM
HAHAHA!
Nice comic as always Z!!!
good job, makes me wanna buy one =D and its price is not bad at all.
Oh yeah! for your verdict, for “pros” say its also one of the cheaper models.
May 31, 2010 at 2:26 PM
for the stuff you get and the parts, it isn’t that cheap. it’s still around $40-45 at best o_o
May 31, 2010 at 4:59 AM
The omake this time round is funnier than a few of your previous ones. Nicely done! XD
I love how Acguy stomp the head to finish off Freedom once and for all.
That aside, I also took notice of how you pose each one and the angles you take. Excellent, I must say. ^^
May 31, 2010 at 2:31 PM
Thanks. I always try to outdo the previous omake with the new ones. It is hard coming up with ideas every time now I noticed… ^^;
May 31, 2010 at 7:54 AM
You are a POK-GUY! My mom read that and she slapped me…
May 31, 2010 at 2:31 PM
guess i should’ve added a warning for Chinese people… xP
May 31, 2010 at 2:37 PM

June 10, 2010 at 10:07 AM
^ My thoughts exactly. XD
May 31, 2010 at 3:05 PM
I just noticed that part of the right side of the large images will be cut off if you are viewing this site with a resolution smaller than 1024 wide… like on my macbook.
May 31, 2010 at 3:32 PM
lol it’s been like that for a very long time now. I told you about it before since my resolution is 1024 x 768 but you said it can’t be helped IIRC. Oh well. ^^;
May 31, 2010 at 3:57 PM
Yea I’ve been testing other themes with a dummy blog from time to time to see which one is the widest while also providing the functions i need. the problem here is that this theme conforms to the resolution… not to my images ^^;. The problem on my part is that the images already look almost too small on my desktop monitor -_-;
May 31, 2010 at 4:30 PM
All hail noodles/
May 31, 2010 at 7:28 PM
LOL hilraious omake! Whered u get the fish and mini-noodles…?
Omigosh, 5/5 on the sudden turn in Acguy’s eye to the back of its head! I loved that! I wish I had such a witty sense of humor…
May 31, 2010 at 7:29 PM
So that’s the only thing that can stop Jebus Yamato… XD
May 31, 2010 at 7:31 PM
My parents are Chinese (but I hardly speak it) so what does Pok-guy mean? It would be more helpful with those sound marks or whatever, but I don’t really get it…care to explain?
June 1, 2010 at 1:11 AM
Pok-guy is a bad word/insult that literally means “trip and fall on the streets”. I don’t know what’s the closest thing in english I can translate it into though… but the level of offense it has is around/higher than maybe calling someone a “bastard” depending on how serious/jokingly you say it. *shrugs* ^^;
May 31, 2010 at 8:07 PM
Holy cr@p, Freedom being such a dick was the most cruel and IRONIC thing I’ve ever seen in your omakes.
Eating Acguy FTW <3!
May 31, 2010 at 8:56 PM
You know, in an ironic way, the Freedom sounds like it is being piloted by Shinn instead. XD
ROFL, don’t mess with others’ food or else you may get stomped as well. Great omake as usual. Gotta love that Acguy Claw. Epic end for the Freedom. Just needs some crazy explosions effects (anyone wants to do it for fun?). X3
Oh, where did you get that little bowl of instant ramen? O.o
May 31, 2010 at 11:55 PM
Oh i got those little food items at the supermarket. They are actually erasers ^^.
June 1, 2010 at 9:32 PM
Unless you were referring to something else Z, if you really meant that “bakunetsu” as burst, its actually bakuretsu.
Random post is random.
And yeah, people don’t mess with the acguy.
June 2, 2010 at 12:33 AM
No. It’s right… that was a homage to the God Finger.
June 1, 2010 at 10:58 PM
When you put this review out, Z, it was well-timed as I am thinking of not just wishing or window-shopping or thinking out loud, but I’m actually considering getting an MG, and you actually convinced me to think about getting this. The only thing turning me off of getting the Acguy (as far as where I’m looking) is the price. As I mentioned before, I might as well get the HGUC Acguy first. But between that HGUC model and the 1/144 Kapool, I’d like to get the Kapool first before it’s hard to get.
I played GTBM2/GBA, and while the Acguy wasn’t really, well, my guy, I thought it was as cute as always, and actually pretty good in that game. But I think it’s a more fun MS to play as in GvGN(P). Or at least to watch videos of:
June 2, 2010 at 12:21 AM
haha that Acguy Team assault does look awesome. Fun little guy indeed.
So in essence, you’re looking forward to picking up the Kapool of all things… xD
June 2, 2010 at 5:58 AM
I’ve grown to love that other cute Haro-like MS after watching Turn A Gundam, yes. :) Again, it’s a cheap 1/144 (even at another place where I found it, albeit a bit more expensive). Naturally, the HGUC (and MG) Acguy will be more available than newer (especially GW-related) MGs, so maybe I should find and pick up a couple of older models before they disappear or run up in the hundreds on E-bay or something. But if I can’t get the MGs I naturally want first, that Acguy may very well be soon to follow, but don’t quote me on that.
June 5, 2010 at 7:18 PM
Omg you ripped the freedom pretty good for this one. O_O I would never do that to mine.
June 2, 2010 at 5:30 PM
hahaha~! Using cantonese in your omake eh? Nice!
~Pokkai!~ LoL!
June 3, 2010 at 7:41 AM
very funny omake ^^
