This is my second MG in my collection which I bought back during the SEED hype when Freedom first appeared. Yea… I fell in love with the way it made its appearance in the nick of time, saving the Archangel. Since this was one of my first MGs, I didn’t do as nice of a job as I would’ve like to with my current models but I’m still satisfied with it.
When I first started on this kit, I was scared due to the overwhelming number of runners but in today’s standards, it’s actually your average number of parts for a nice MG model with loads of gimmicks. There’s better things to be scared about in this model such as the oh so thin wings parts because they are very easy to snap. Other than that, I remember this kit was pretty easy for an MG and was somewhat disappointed because I was expecting more difficulty out of it. Everything is simple and there’s no unnecessary tiny pieces and no screws to deal with. Just have fun taking the time to put it together and it’ll come out very nice. The outer armor have so few lines that this kit will even look great without panel lines! This is rare of a MG.
You’ll be delighted at just how smooth the joints in this model moves, and how easy it can pose. The joints are snug and not overly tight but it can still hold up the body despite being a little back-heavy. The ultra bendable knees and shoulders is a great highlight of this kit since it allows for more dynamic poses rarely found in the MG models before it. I guess it’s the SEED MG is where the super dynamic action poses of MG models all began ^_^. If you’re someone with a symmetrical perfection complex then you’ll have a great time trying to adjust the wings so that it’s equal on both sides. That’s very hard because it’s about the only area where the joints are stiff so moving one piece will move the other parts as well and then aligning front and back, left and right… you get the picture. But only with this can the model replicate the awesome Hi-MAT spam pose.
Cheap things about this model is that blue foil stickers are included for the blue part of the beam rifle cover… what? why no blue piece? It doesn’t matter since I took matters into my own hands and painted it blue instead of using the foil stickers. The black rings on the beam sabers are also foil stickers and they have a tendency to come off.
This is an awesome MG kit despite its age and well worth picking up… whether you hated this Gundam or not in the anime ^_^;

I actually like the extra finish. But is it worth the extra 3200 yen?
December 29, 2009 at 4:40 PM
I still can’t differentiate Freedom and Strike Freedom…
December 29, 2009 at 5:02 PM
Never mind I’m getting the extra finish since it’s only 60 bucks at Gundamstoreandmore.com

kefka, if you like it then I guess it’s worth it to you ^^;. I don’t like the chrome thing one bit… but then again, I always hated flashy stuff.
Divine, one is uglier than the other.

*laughs nice comparison Z. ^^ couldn’t agree more
December 30, 2009 at 2:54 PM
Well you do use flat coat. I probably will never top coat^^;.
Hey I like the silver.
December 30, 2009 at 2:55 PM
And yeah Strike Freedom has way too much stuff going on.
January 8, 2010 at 1:19 PM
My Freedom came today.
January 8, 2010 at 4:24 PM
Strike Freedom is WAY to over powered. come on, is it necessary to have 2 beam rifles, a mega giga canon on the torso AND a dragoon system?
April 14, 2012 at 10:03 AM
Copycat of F91 with a little bigger scale, less interesting torso and grand-feel wing. meh

Hello
Over the past year I have really gotten into MG/PG Gundams
I like your collection. Even tho I have a Air Brush with Compressor I am too chicken to use it on an avg Model costing about $60. I keep hearing about this Clear coating as the alternative. And Z I have read your posts on Clear Coating. I have protected my decals with thin coating of nail polish. But I want to move to clear Coating. Do I just spray the stuff on a completed, decaled, panel lined model. Or do I need to disassemble and spray the parts separately
Thanks
May 28, 2011 at 10:23 AM
I spray Top Coating on in a variety of ways. i like to put on all my waterside decals before top coating whenever possible, wether the piece has been assembled or not attached to the main model. If a section has multiple moving parts, I assemble each subunit, make sure it’s colored, panel lined, and decaled the way I like, then apply the final top coat to secure decals in place, sometimes after I assemble a jointed arm, leg or other part together I give it a second light top coat spray for good measure.

If you are using flat coating, as long no clear or chrome parts, u can spray on the competed model be it decals, panel lines… It’s easier to go by parts, e.g arms, legs… than the whole figure, that way you are not likely to miss out anything.
And also when spray keep a arm’s length distance, dun over coat it, choose a sunny day and open area. The smell is unbearable. lolz

Z, is your Freedom’s wings very tight? I just built mine and was freakin’ pissed off how tight they are up to the extent of immobile, especially at the main joint…
When i was adjusting the wings and cannon for photoshoot (because of the tightness in moving parts I added some force) and i knocked the deployed cannon against the V-fin, breaking the fin… ==; I wonder whether it’s because mine is a new batch, it’s under clearpart campaign that just stocked in 1 day after i grabbed it…
April 9, 2010 at 2:30 AM
My wings are fine… just snug. Making them symmetrical is a paint in the ass though. My Freedom’s v-fin is also broken after i dropped it but it is broken in such a way that i can just stick it back on without having to glue it… I just don’t have to touch it ^^;
April 9, 2010 at 2:31 AM
hmm… the images aren’t too shabby in this review but i would still like to redo the photoshoot…
April 22, 2010 at 5:53 PM
I just bought this model. Like, ive read the summary, but what do you recommend i do?
April 23, 2010 at 9:30 PM
Build and play around with it? That’s what I would do o_o.
April 25, 2010 at 7:30 PM
i know that much, but ive worked for like a solid 5-6 hrs on it and Ive only completed the torso, arms, and the head. Thats like brutal for one whose basically only built HG’s
May 28, 2011 at 10:28 AM
That’s kind of the point of owning/building a MG kit, it takes much more time especially a complex design with as many moving parts as the Freedom. If you don’t enjoy the length and intricacy of the build then MGs aren’t really right for those who want immediate gratification, best stick to HG kits. It’s not an insult just a fact that MG level kits appeal to a different sort of builder, one who enjoys the build process as much or even more than the finished project. I’m working on a MG Exia right now. I’ve already put in 12 hrs or so and have only completed the head and inner frame skeleton, none of the exterior armor or weapons yet

Any tips b4 i start?
June 1, 2010 at 7:30 PM
Have fun? heh… the model is very straightforward so it shouldn’t be all that difficult.
June 5, 2010 at 9:51 AM
lol i did. i painted the beam parts clear red i love the texture of them after it was painted. question: did you paint the dark gray parts on the Sword Silhouette black or leave it the was it was?
December 27, 2010 at 9:00 PM
I left it as is… not that my answer matters to you now. Sorry ^^;
